OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — The Olympia Police Department says a man has died while in police custody at a local bus station.
The man has not yet been identified, but police described him as a white male in his 30s or 40s.
Police say Intercity Transit employees called emergency dispatchers Monday afternoon to report that a man had entered their locked offices and was acting violent. The man reportedly assaulted one of the transit employees but calmed down after police arrived and they placed him in handcuffs.
An officer later noticed that the man appeared ill, according to the police department. Medics who were already at the scene to treat the injured transit worker tried to perform life-saving measures on the man who was in custody, but he died.
The death is under investigation by the Thurston County Critical Incident Team.
