The annual tribal canoe journey that traverses our region was impacted by the tsunami alerts this week.

The Paddle to Elwha was running right around the time the earthquake happened in Russia, prompting global alerts over the dangers of a possible tsunami. Some people in canoes got out of the water late Tuesday and did not go back in on Wednesday until all major alerts were lifted and the waves did not materialize.

The canoe journeys were slated to finish within the coming days, and there were impacts as the groups on shore and in the canoes watched the news.

The good news is that the potential for a tsunami was slated to hit in the early morning hours of Wednesday, not when anyone on the canoe journey would have been in the water. The major concern, though, for some was whether there would be an impact on currents in the later morning on Wednesday, when the canoe journey would get going again.

Chairwoman Frances Charles of the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe admitted that a tsunami risk was not at all a concern at the tail end of the canoe journey for many participants.

鈥淭otally unprepared for a tsunami, of course, in regards to that, but we were really concerned about it because it鈥檚 all about the safety,鈥 she said, adding that when the first alerts went out, everyone taking part quickly assessed the situation, followed the updates, and got out of the water for the legs of the journey late Tuesday. Some waited to see how things would go on Wednesday morning.

The Paddle to Elwha around our region is an annual tradition that has run for decades; the pandemic stopped it, but the threat of a tsunami only stymied it a bit. When alerts went out yesterday, tribal leaders did not take too many risks.

But dangerous large tsunami waves never quite materialized in Washington, and the canoe journey wasn鈥檛 stopped for long, according to Chairwoman Charles.

鈥淭here was concerns of the uncertainty on when those current levels would be for our pullers and also in general with the wind situations we run into,鈥 she said.

The chairwoman of the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe said canoe groups a little further out west didn鈥檛 risk the water and got out and watched the situation. On Wednesday, groups further east near Port Townsend waited for the alerts to be lifted this morning and then safely kept going.

Charles said getting information was quite easy and proved that it was being released fast, 鈥淎 lot of good communications had taken place with the emergency response agencies, enforcement, coast guard, everybody that needed to be involved was on the phone conferences every hour.鈥

鈥淲e were closely watching 成人X站 when they were predicting 7-10 inches, and it ended up being a foot-and-a-half, but our team was on the phones and watching everything, all the reports,鈥 said Russell Hepfer, Vice Chair of the Lower Elwha Klallam tribe.

Both Charles and Hepfer feel that the alerts, along with the communications, proved what could go right in the situation. They also stressed that the delays and some people taking canoes out of the water to be safe did not delay the journey. Charles expects canoes to be landing in the next few days to finish off the journey for this year.

Child surprises Pierce Co. deputies, thanks them for rescue /local/child-surprises-pierce-co-deputies-thanks-them-for-rescue/4115694 Wed, 30 Jul 2025 21:13:06 +0000 /?p=4115694 A mother鈥檚 worst nightmare was caught on a Pierce County Sheriff鈥檚 Office deputy鈥檚 body camera earlier this month.

Her son, Hunter, was out fishing with a friend and the friend鈥檚 grandparents on Alder Lake when they went missing on the evening of July 2.

Deputies searched the shoreline and got boats in the water to look for the missing boat and passengers. A helicopter was called out, and the whole lake was searched all night with no luck.

鈥淚 had no intention of going back to the dock, and talking to his mom, and telling her that I was done with my search. I was going to continue searching,鈥 said Sgt. David Sutherland with the Pierce County Sheriff鈥檚 Office and Marine Services unit.

In the early hours of the next morning, Sgt. Sutherland and another deputy decided to go up a remote part of the Little Nisqually River that feeds into Alder Lake.

The missing boat was finally found in a narrow canyon of the river with a broken-down motor, with all occupants huddled in a cove nearby.

鈥淚 will tell you from my perspective as a first responder, it was immediate relief. I was dreading going back to shore and telling Mom I couldn鈥檛 find her child,鈥 said Sgt. Sutherland. 鈥淭here was so much relief. And then we found a very relieved mother standing on the dock waiting for us.鈥

Now, mom Sarah and son Hunter had the chance to thank the deputies who saved them and brought Hunter home.

鈥淔or 12 hours, I thought my son was dead. It was the worst experience I鈥檝e ever had in my life, and I鈥檓 very thankful that the deputies were able to help keep me calm, and there was never a point where I felt like they weren鈥檛 engaged in helping some way or another, and so that played a big part in keeping me calm,鈥 said Sarah. 鈥淚 was living every mother鈥檚 worst nightmare at that point. The only difference is thanks to Pierce County Sheriff鈥檚, fire department, and everybody… it was a positive outcome and he came back to us, and that doesn鈥檛 happen all the time.鈥

Luckily, Sarah says that Hunter was kept calm by his friend鈥檚 grandparents.

鈥淭he family that he was with did an amazing job at helping him feel like everything that was going on was normal… they were just having a sleepover campout, and so that helped him a lot. Needless to say, I was probably a little more scared than he was!鈥 added Sarah.

鈥淲e kind of just went to bed and then boom! They came out of nowhere 鈥 the rescue boats,鈥 said Hunter.

When asked how he felt when he saw the rescue boats, he said, 鈥淚 was pretty much eating a cookie.鈥

And when asked if he鈥檇 go boating again soon, Hunter said, 鈥淎s long as she is with me,鈥 referring to his mom, 鈥淚 will go boating.鈥

Hunter hugged the deputies who rescued him, as Sarah, a professional baker, arrived at the station with a homemade cake to accompany her tearful gratitude.

‘History is going up in front of our eyes:’ The storied past of Pier 58 and the aquarium space /entertainment-news/pier-58-seattle-waterfront/4113840 Sat, 26 Jul 2025 12:01:02 +0000 /?p=4113840 Pier 58 has reopened after years of renovations, and it鈥檚 just one piece of the puzzle of Seattle鈥檚 Waterfront Park.

There have been massive renovations over the past 15 years to get the waterfront to where it is today.

To build the ocean pavilion to last for generations, millions of pounds and miles of rebar lining the reef habitat are beyond what you鈥檇 find in tall skyscrapers.

鈥淗istory鈥檚 literally going up in front of our eyes,鈥 Seattle historian Feliks Banel said.

Banel reminds us that long before the Seattle Aquarium was ever a concept to teach conservation, profiteers lured tourists to Seattle and used sealife to make a fast buck.

In the mid-1930s, a post-Civil War era clipper ship was a floating museum, where for a dime you were promised a small display of sea life from Puget Sound.

Then there was the frozen fish museum of 2,000 fish frozen solid. Somehow, this odd attraction stayed open for 30 years.

Long before Seattle showman Ivar Haglund ever sold a single cup of chowder, his big business idea was what he called an aquarium on the waterfront.

鈥淚var was inviting people to look at octopuses in a fish tank, and those people, he sold fish and chips and chowder to. The fish and chips and chowder came second. The first was an aquarium, and it morphed into a business selling fish and chips,鈥 Banel said.

Ivar Haglund charged a nickel to show live sea life, but Banel said it was a sideshow.

鈥淚var would do things like take a baby seal and put it in a baby carriage and push it around the city to generate publicity for his business,鈥 Banel said.

Years later, when the World鈥檚 Fair attracted millions of visitors, businessman Ted Griffin cashed in by opening a for-profit marine aquarium, which took a dark dive in 1965.

鈥淎n orca, a killer whale, is captured by mistake off Vancouver Island, caught in some fisherman鈥檚 nets,” Banel shared. “Giffin buys it, builds a floating pen, and tows it all the way back to Seattle. It鈥檚 a media spectacle. Radio DJs are following along. TV stations are doing remote shots from the Strait of Juan de Fuca, trying to get footage of this whale coming to town because no one had ever successfully had a whale in captivity.鈥

They named the whale Namu and charged people to watch him caged in a pen on the waterfront. Hollywood filmmakers quickly moved in and made a movie starring Namu as a character. People protested, demanding Namu鈥檚 freedom.

“Unfortunately, before that movie could open to the public, Namu died of a bacterial infection,” Banel said.

An infection reportedly caused by raw sewage, which was, at the time, polluting Elliott Bay.

“It all begins with this sad whale, Namu, who was captured, dragged to Seattle, made to be a movie star against his will, and died in captivity less than a year later,” Banel said. “It鈥檚 a real tragedy.”

Having learned from dark decisions, Seattle city leaders offered a better way. Voters approved a 1968 tax to build a real nonprofit aquarium, building a new relationship between Seattle and the sea for the next hundred years.

鈥淭here was a very strong ethic here in the 50s, 60s, and 70s into the 80s to invest in things that people could benefit from for decades to come, and the aquarium fits right into that mix,鈥 Banel said.

On May 20, 1977, the Seattle Aquarium opened to a crowd. The Seattle mayor called it the age of the aquarium.

Banel said the ocean pavilion will show how a city can transform an attitude while transforming a waterfront, while educating generations on the power of preservation instead of profit.

18-year-old sentenced to 10.5 years in shooting death of Tacoma father /local/18-year-old-shooting-tacoma-father/4112505 Tue, 22 Jul 2025 12:44:14 +0000 /?p=4112505 Anger, heartbreak, and shock were unleashed in a Pierce County courthouse on Monday morning after an 18-year-old man who shot and killed a Tacoma father-figure was sentenced to ten and a half years.

鈥淩ight now, I鈥檓 angry! That you stole my son鈥檚 life!鈥 said Alicia Cross, the mother of 59-year-old Ricktor Murphy, who was shot dead in the parking lot of a convenience store on Halloween night.

The shooter, 18-year-old Chase Andrew Wilcox, struck a plea deal after admitting to shooting Murphy eight times.

Wilcox and Murphy had never met before the brief argument in the parking lot of a 7/11 that led to Murphy鈥檚 death.

鈥淲ilcox needs to be behind bars for the maximum time!” his mother said.

Facing a murder charge, Wilcox made a plea deal to a far lesser charge of manslaughter with a deadly weapon.

Pierce County prosecutors say Wilcox was with his mother in the parking lot when Murphy made a comment about how fast Wilcox had pulled in.

Wilcox now admits to shooting Ricktor Murphy eight times while his mother was next to him. Wilcox and his mother then drove home.

鈥淭his was a young man who had it in his heart to kill somebody that day. And you allowed it to happen,” Cross said.

Ricktor Murphy鈥檚 children and family stood in court to recognize a man they described as loving, present, and selfless. They described a man who was a father figure not only to his own family, but to his community.

“I have not cried once since October 31, this is the first time I鈥檓 doing it … I have not mourned my father, because I鈥檓 waiting for this day,” Riquaisha Braxton, Murphy鈥檚 daughter, said.

Wilcox was turned in by a caller to Crime Stoppers, saying he鈥檇 bragged about the shooting, claiming he was defending his mother.

Wilcox made a statement before he was sentenced.

“I鈥檓 really sorry for everything that happened … I didn鈥檛 ever want it to play out like that. I wanted us both to be able to go home and enjoy our lives, and I just really apologize,” Wilcox said.

Judge Susan Adams gave Wilcox the maximum she could, which is 10 and a half years.

鈥淲hat I hope is that this can bring closure and a path forward, and that you can live in honor of the wonderful man that Ricktor Murphy was, and that he can live on inside of all of you, and I hope and pray you carry that forward for our community,” Judge Adams said.

Docs: Surveillance footage, Dick鈥檚 order leads police to man accused of setting deadly house fire /crime_blotter/docs-police-deadly-house-fire/4111333 Fri, 18 Jul 2025 12:36:52 +0000 /?p=4111333 A man has been charged for allegedly intentionally setting a fire outside a Wallingford home that killed a 72-year-old woman.

According to court documents, neighborhood surveillance and a stop at Dick鈥檚 Drive-In helped lead investigators to the suspect, 25-year-old Letian Shi.

What happened

On June 4, crews responded to a massive fire at home on Sunnyside Avenue in the early morning hours.

Firefighters were able to pull a 72-year-old woman from the burning home, but she died two days later from smoke inhalation and lack of oxygen.

Through an investigation, detectives learned that the fire at her home had been intentionally started at the front of the house before it quickly spread to the interior and ceiling.

Tracking the suspect

Around 12:50 a.m. on June 4, surveillance footage from a home directly across the street from the victim鈥檚 home captured someone walking up to the porch area. Then, flashes of light can be seen in the area near the front yard and porch, which investigators believe was the lighting of the flame before the fire started, court documents said.

According to docs, video shows a person walking away from the home three minutes later as the fire continues to steadily grow.

As investigators reviewed surveillance footage from neighbors, they found the person wearing the same outfit with the same appearance in an area of another fire about 20 minutes before the woman鈥檚 house started to burn.

At this time, around 12:28 a.m., Seattle Firefighters got a call for a brush fire at Sun Bear Park at the corner of N 38th St and Eastern Ave N. It appeared someone intentionally set a desk and chair at the park on fire.

Sun Bear Park is about a block away from the 72-year-old woman鈥檚 home.

Footage showed the same person walking toward Sun Bear Park. Investigators noticed the person was carrying a white bag and sipping from a drink. Detectives were able to see that it was a bag for Dick鈥檚 Drive-In, court documents said.

On June 16, a detective got a warrant for surveillance video and transaction records for that time at the Dick鈥檚 location. The footage showed the person with the same clothes, appearance and stature as the suspect.

The video showed that person getting in line at Dick鈥檚 around 11:50 p.m. on June 3 and placing an order, court docs said. That person used a credit card to pay for their order.

Records showed the cardholder鈥檚 name was listed as 鈥楽hi Letian鈥

鈥淚 searched the Washington State Department of Licensing database first for only the first name 鈥淪hi鈥 and last name 鈥淟etian鈥, receiving no results. I then searched for first name 鈥淟etian鈥 and last name 鈥淪hi鈥 resulting in only one result,” a detective wrote in court documents.

The only result for Letian Shi came back with an address that was about a mile away from the Dick鈥檚 location.

鈥淚 reviewed Letian Shi鈥檚 driver鈥檚 license photograph and compared the photograph to images of the suspect in the Dick鈥檚 Drive-In security footage. The suspect in the footage is wearing dark framed glasses and Letian Shi is not wearing glasses in the Department of Licensing photograph. However, based upon the shape of the suspect鈥檚 nose, mouth, and ears, along with his hair color, skin tone, and age, I believed that it is Letian Shi depicted in the Dick鈥檚 Drive-In footage,鈥 the detective wrote in court documents.

Did Shi know the victim?

A neighbor told investigators that about two weeks before the fire, they witnessed the victim and another person interacting.

The neighbor said they found the person 鈥渦nusual鈥 and saw him talking to the victim outside her home, saying that the victim appeared 鈥渋rritated鈥 regarding their interaction, according to court documents.

That neighbor said they spoke to the victim while the 鈥渦nusual鈥 person was present, so they got a good look at him.

鈥淭he neighbor stated that because of the location of their home office, the neighbor is regularly looking outside. The neighbor regularly sees the people in the neighborhood but had never seen this subject before. The neighbor also found that the interaction between the subject and the victim to be unusual because the victim did not really have visitors or any other people that would talk to her. The neighbor in fact could not recall the victim ever interacting with anybody,鈥 court documents said.

The description of the stranger matches Shi鈥檚 description, according to court documents. However, the documents did not explicitly say that it was Shi.

Shi has been charged with first-degree murder and second-degree arson.

Prosecutors asked that bail be set at $4 million.

Docs detail investigation; 4-year-old shoots Lynnwood mom with sleeping dad鈥檚 gun /local/4-year-old-shoots-lynnwood-mom/4110961 Thu, 17 Jul 2025 12:35:06 +0000 /?p=4110961 Snohomish County deputies are continuing their investigation into the accidental shooting of a Lynnwood woman that allegedly happened at the hands of her 4-year-old son.

On July 15, deputies responded to a townhome after a man called 911 to report that he 鈥渨as sleeping on the couch with his holstered gun and somehow, his 4-year-old son got the gun out and discharged it, hitting [his] wife in the bicep,鈥 court documents explain.

The woman was taken to the hospital and is expected to be OK.

A deputy said a portion of her tricep was missing, according to court documents. Blood was found throughout the bathroom where the incident took place, investigators said.

The child had a cut under his right eye that was bleeding, which detectives believed was caused by the kickback from the gun.

What happened

According to court documents, the victim said she was in the shower and asked her 4-year-old to get her phone from another room. When the child returned, he was holding a gun and fired it, hitting his mom in the arm, court documents said.

The suspect told investigators that he had fallen asleep on the couch and was woken up when he heard yelling. He found that the victim had been shot.

He told detectives that the gun was taken from the holster in his pants, and that he had fallen asleep with the gun holstered in his waistband, and that the child had apparently taken it from him while he slept.

鈥淥bserving the items, I saw that it would have been difficult for the gun to have been removed from the holster if it was still secured to [suspect鈥檚] waistband. Additionally, the gun would have been covered by a shirt and the pants of [suspect], making it unlikely that the child would have known the gun was there, let alone being able to free the gun from the holster and pants of [suspect],鈥 one investigator wrote in probable cause documents.

While in the home, responding deputies said they found multiple gun safes and, on the fridge, there were printouts that an officer recognized as 鈥渟afety plans from Child Protective Services.鈥 On one of those printouts, it appeared that the mother admitted to using fentanyl, court documents said.

According to court documents, investigators found a pipe and aluminum foil in the bathroom, though detectives did not move the items to see if there were burn marks or residue associated with drug use.

When the suspect was arrested, detectives said they found several pills in his pockets, along with small baggies, both with white powder and white powder residue, which detectives suspected was fentanyl, according to court documents.

The 51-year-old was booked into Snohomish County Jail for unsafe storage of a firearm, reckless endangerment, and controlled substance possession.

He is due in court later this month.

‘There was a bullet in my shower’, bullet whizzes into Green Lake home /crime_blotter/bullet-green-lake-home/4110226 Tue, 15 Jul 2025 13:17:50 +0000 /?p=4110226 Early Monday morning, people living near North 85th Street and Bagley Avenue N. were woken up by gunfire, and one bullet hit a home.

Neighbors believe the gunfire came from a drive-by shooting.

鈥淭here was a little bit of silence, then like eight more shots 鈥 pretty quick,鈥 said Alex, whose home was hit.

Alex said that when he first saw the bullet hole go through the screen of his window, he thought it was caused by a pellet gun. But when he continued his investigation, he discovered that wasn鈥檛 the case.

鈥淪o, it came up through the window, through the closet door and wall, and out through the curtain, and it kind of scraped by here and through the curtain and into the wall right there,鈥 he said.

He said a 9mm bullet lodged into his shower wall. Something he still can鈥檛 believe.

鈥淒isbelief,鈥 Alex said. 鈥淎nd I was just kind of like repeating that there was a bullet in my shower. It was pretty wild,鈥 he continued.

He says his other roommates were home at the time of the shooting. The good news is that no one was hurt, and his home was the only one hit by gunfire. He says that whenever you hear gunfire and see multiple bullet holes in your home, you think how it could鈥檝e been much worse, especially since Alex鈥檚 home is just a block or two away from Bishop Blanchet High School.

鈥淚 know going down 85th, it鈥檚 a pretty populated area. There are a lot of kids. A lot of people just 鈥 I don鈥檛 like to think about that or anyone, God forbid, getting hurt,鈥 Alex said.

Despite all of that, Alex believes this was a freak accident and that his neighborhood is still a safe place to be.

鈥淚 don鈥檛 like to see it, and I wish more could be done to prevent it, but at the same time, I realize this is a pretty freak accident,鈥 Alex said.

Seattle police believe the 9mm bullet came from a handgun and are still investigating.

13-year-old boy being called a hero for quick actions in Everett near-drowning /local/13-year-old-boy-hero-everett/4108691 Thu, 10 Jul 2025 12:35:05 +0000 /?p=4108691 Everett Firefighters said an 11-year-old boy is recovering after he fell off the Thornton Park dock and got caught underwater for several minutes.

Crews told that 13-year-old Gauge Bryant is to be credited for saving the boy鈥檚 life after he selflessly dove under the dock to find the victim.

鈥淚 knew I had to get him out. I got him out, and his lips were purple and blue,鈥 Bryant said.

Medics said it happened just before 3 p.m. Monday.

Bryant told 成人X站 7 he heard a woman screaming for help near the dock, so he ran over to help. He said when he first went under, he thought he saw something under the dock, but the water was dark.

Bryant said he grabbed a pair of goggles, then saw the boy.

鈥淚 saw him cradled and my heart started beating immediately, and I was like I鈥檝e got to get him out of here,鈥 Bryant said.

After several attempts, Bryant successfully located the boy and brought him to the surface, where bystanders were able to lift him onto the dock.

鈥淚 pushed him up above me and I grabbed him and climbed in the dock as quick as I could and started doing chest compressions before other people started running over,鈥 Bryant said.

Three nurses, along with several other community members, immediately began performing bystander CPR on the child.

Witnesses told medics that the child had been underwater for four to six minutes.

鈥淭he Everett Fire Department recognizes the courageous actions of the 13-year-old teen for his bravery, which undoubtedly played a vital role in saving the child鈥檚 life.

The quick actions of bystanders also played a crucial role in saving the child鈥檚 life,” the Everett Fire Department stated. “This incident underscores the importance of having CPR training, as it can make a significant difference in critical situations and help ensure the safety of our community, especially around water.”

Bryant said he hopes the boy鈥檚 family reaches out once he is out of the hospital because he wants to meet him and make sure he is OK. If you know who the 11-year-old victim is, please reach out to聽newstips@kiro7.com. 成人X站 7 would like to pass your information to Bryant鈥檚 family!

聽Safety Tips from Everett Firefighters

鈥淒rownings happen quickly, and often they are silent. It only takes a moment. A child or weak swimmer can drown in the time it takes to reply to a text, check a fishing line, or apply sunscreen.鈥

As you enjoy this beautiful summer weather, please keep these water safety tips in mind:

鈥 Always watch children when they are in or near water, and never leave them unattended, even when a lifeguard is present.

鈥 Designate an official Water Watcher, an adult tasked with supervising children in the water. That should be their only task 鈥 they shouldn鈥檛 be reading, texting, or playing games on their phone.

鈥 Teach children how to swim.

鈥 Know how and when to use life jackets, especially with children and weak swimmers. Ensure life jackets are Coast Guard-certified, correctly fitted, and worn.

鈥 Never allow anyone to swim alone.

鈥 Don鈥檛 drop kids off at the beach unsupervised.

鈥 Learn first aid and CPR.

Last Wednesday, he pleaded guilty, just weeks before his trial was set to begin.

As Judge Steven Hippler read off the names of the students, people in the section for families teared up.

Kohberger, on the other hand, remained unemotional as he confirmed to Judge Hippler that he stabbed all four in .

Kohberger admitted that he was pleading guilty鈥 freely and voluntarily鈥 because he was, in fact, guilty, and not because he had some other incentive or was being pressured.

Judge Hippler gave prosecutor Bill Thompson a chance to address the courtroom. He walked them through how police pinpointed Kohberger鈥檚 movements using cellphone data and provided a timeline of the stabbings.

He said Kohberger snuck into the home through the sliding back, killing Madison Mogen first.

Thompson said Kohberger then killed Kaylee Goncalves and stabbed Xana Kernodle, who was grabbing her DoorDash order. Then, Thompson said, he stabbed Kernodle鈥檚 boyfriend, Ethan Chapin, who was asleep.

Thompson also noted that a 鈥榮ingle source鈥 of male DNA 鈥 that matched Kohberger鈥檚 鈥 was found on a left behind at the scene.

Kohberger will be sentenced on July 23 in Ada County.

The incident happened around 6:30 p.m. when Potter and Mathews saw the couple go overboard without lifejackets.

The couple鈥檚 boat was still in gear and continued to circle.

Reacting quickly, the off-duty employees used their training to rescue the woman, who was struggling to stay afloat, and then assisted the man, who managed to grab onto their boat.

They were able to turn off the motor and bring the couple to a local dock before hypothermia could set in.

The man involved in the incident said that he would wear a life jacket in the future.

Kirkland community searches for Jonathan Hoang, reward hits $100K /local/kirkland-jonathan-hoang/4106807 Fri, 04 Jul 2025 18:00:36 +0000 /?p=4106807 A North Sound community is actively searching for missing 21-year-old Jonathan Hoang after a home鈥檚聽.

Jonathan, who is autistic, disappeared from his family鈥檚 Arlington home on March 30.

鈥淚 was riding in the neighborhood last night till 1 a.m. in hopes that maybe he comes out, walks to make himself warm, or I don鈥檛 know maybe if it鈥檚 his routine,鈥 said motorcyclist Ario.

Ario told 成人X站 7 he lives in a different neighborhood but has spent the last couple of days and nights riding around searching for Jonathan. A man who resembled the 21-year-old was last seen on NE 114th Lane.

鈥淲e know that he survived for these 95 days, so he鈥檚 a fighter. We are going to fight with him, we will not stop until we find him,鈥 he said.

On Thursday, the聽聽to go outside, call out, 鈥淛onathan, we鈥檙e here to help you,鈥 and look in hidden areas for the 21-year-old.

鈥淲hen we鈥檙e out, we鈥檙e just kind of looking for like anything that seems like one off like 鈥楬ey, is there a person sleeping back there鈥 or clothing in an outbuilding,鈥 said Jessi Zettlemoyer.

Zettlemoyer and her family came from Lake Stevens to scour the area. They鈥檝e been keeping a close eye on where Jonathan may have been spotted last.

鈥淚 just know what I would want to have done if, God forbid, one of my kids went missing and what I鈥檇 hope people would do for me,鈥 she added. 鈥淚 just can鈥檛 believe as a mom, I would be here. I would be sitting wherever I saw him last.鈥

Even as strangers to the Hoang family, they say finding Jonathan safe affects the entire community.

鈥淛ust to make sure that he鈥檚 safe and he鈥檒l come back soon. He鈥檚 our family now. He鈥檚 all of ours,鈥 Ario said.

To boost the search for Jonathan, a Florida car dealership owner donated $90,000 to increase the reward money to find him. The total reward is now $100,000.

鈥淚 wanted them to have the money so that they would have the energy and focus all their energies on finding Jonathan,鈥 said Earl Stewart of Florida.

Stewart told 成人X站 7 he heard about Jonathan鈥檚 story while watching the news.

鈥淚 have three sons, they鈥檙e well taken care of. I can鈥檛 think of anything that makes me feel better than to help somebody, that鈥檚 why I did it. I think giving to someone like this in a case like this is the best possible way I can spend money,鈥 Steward said.

If you see Jonathan, you鈥檙e asked to take a picture of him, ask for his name, and call 911.

Nimbus the Husky recovering after massive fall from cliff /local/nimbus-the-husky-recovering-fall/4103880 Thu, 26 Jun 2025 16:12:14 +0000 /?p=4103880 A five-year-old Husky named Nimbus is receiving聽聽at the Washington State Veterinary Teaching Hospital in Pullman after falling about 20 feet off a cliff, following a run-in with a goat.

Now, her owner is sharing her story, in hopes it resonates with others who spend time outdoors with their pets.

The fall happened Saturday, while they were on a training run with friends in Teanaway.

鈥淲e had just reached the ridge,鈥 Katie Warren told . 鈥淭here鈥檚 a big snow patch, which she loves.鈥

Katie said Nimbus and another dog named Doug began playing in the snow together.

鈥淭hey are together all the time at our races and everything. We call them 鈥楧imbus鈥 as a couple, cause it鈥檚 Doug and Nimbus.鈥

As the group continued their run, something changed.

鈥淚 realized she wasn鈥檛 with Doug,鈥 Katie told 成人X站 7.

She checked her GPS collar and saw her a short distance away, near a big rock outcrop.

鈥淚f I see her alert to something, whether it鈥檚 a noise or a scent or something, she immediately goes back on a leash,鈥 Katie said.

Nimbus had followed a goat into steep terrain.

鈥淎 bunch of rocks started falling,鈥 Katie said. 鈥淚t caught my attention. I looked up and she was just falling like through the air, backwards. And I didn鈥檛 even really register like the goat.鈥

Katie was in shock.

鈥淢y first thought was like; I just watched my dog die. And I screamed.鈥

Rocks were still falling as Katie made her way over to Nimbus, unsure what she鈥檇 find.

鈥淪he was sitting there at the top of the snow bank, and I鈥檓 like shaking and sobbing,鈥 Katie told 成人X站 7. 鈥淒id a little once over, and she stood up, which I was shocked.鈥

At this point, Katie鈥檚 friends came looking for her. Her partner, who is a firefighter, examined Nimbus for any signs of injury.

鈥淣o point tenderness, she didn鈥檛 like yelp or whine. So, we didn鈥檛 think there was any bone damage,鈥 Katie said. 鈥淚t wasn鈥檛 until I got her up on like my partner鈥檚 shoulders so he could start carrying her out that I realized she had a wound on her side.鈥

The group took turns carrying Nimbus the five miles to the parking lot.

They rushed her to a Cascade Veterinary Clinic in Wenatchee.

鈥淭hey were amazing,鈥 Katie told 成人X站 7.

With Nimbus stable and in the care of a veterinarian staff, she and her partner made the trek back to get her car.

鈥淏y the time I got down right back into the service and my phone started ringing, that鈥檚 when she told me how bad Nimbus鈥 internal damage was, and that I had some hard decisions to make,鈥 Katie said.

But it wasn鈥檛 a hard decision 鈥 it was a no-brainer for Katie.

鈥淚鈥檓 going to do everything I can to save her.鈥

Nimbus made it through the night, but the next day her protein levels began to drop. Katie said that Nimbus had sepsis and a damaged pancreas. She needed a higher level of care.

鈥淲e鈥檙e really lucky in Washington,鈥 she said. 鈥淚 was just three and a half hours away from WSU.鈥

She got in her car and drove Nimbus straight to Pullman, where she鈥檚 currently receiving treatment.

Katie told 成人X站 7 News that on Tuesday, she got a glimmer of hope. Nimbus ate a little bit of chicken, and her lab work is staying consistent.

鈥淚 just keep telling her that she鈥檚 such a tough girl,鈥 Katie said. 鈥淪he鈥檚 so spunky and has such a little attitude sometimes, and she is so stubborn and so I just, all those traits that can be so frustrating sometimes, I鈥檓 like lean into those girl, those are going to get you through.鈥

Katie said that she wants to be clear 鈥 she is not blaming the goat for what happened to Nimbus.

鈥淚 don鈥檛 want this to be like, 鈥極h, this vicious goat attacked her,鈥欌 Katie said. 鈥淚t was her fault. It was my fault. And, um. you know, I鈥檓 going to carry that with me for a long time.鈥

She hopes that her story will serve as a reminder to treat wildlife with kindness.

鈥淎ll wildlife should be respected,鈥 she said.鈥 They鈥檙e not out to get you, but they鈥檙e wild animals, and you鈥檝e got to respect their space鈥on鈥檛 blame them for being in their environment, and them just doing what they do.鈥

Katie also urges all pet owners to consider pet insurance.

鈥淛ust like with people, insurance only covers so much, but it is the difference between saving your animal and not.鈥

She also suggests having a group with you when spending time outdoors and bringing the proper gear.

鈥淚t was so helpful to have people with me,鈥 she said. 鈥淎nd thinking about things that I carry under other circumstances. Like if I鈥檓 backpacking, I have a little sling that鈥檚 made specifically for evacuating your dog. But I just, you know, this was such a mundane, normal trail run for us that I just didn鈥檛 see it as necessary.鈥

Katie said she鈥檚 unsure how long Nimbus will be in 24-hour veterinary care, but she is grateful for those who are caring for her best friend.

鈥淭heir attitude and just their positive spirit and their support of me and my dog is just, I just can鈥檛 thank them enough.鈥

A friend has created a fundraiser for Katie to help offset the cost of the veterinary care for Nimbus. If you鈥檇 like to help, you can聽

Katie told 成人X站 7 she鈥檚 trying to focus on moving forward and staying strong for Nimbus.

鈥淭here鈥檚 nothing you can say to me that I haven鈥檛 said to myself,鈥 she said. 鈥淚鈥檓 beating myself up just as bad, because it鈥檚 my dog in there. It鈥檚 my best bud. I understand that I made a mistake, and I don鈥檛 think that it鈥檚 okay. Give me your best.鈥

King County woman loses thousands in pet scam /local/king-county-pet-scam/4103327 Wed, 25 Jun 2025 13:08:32 +0000 /?p=4103327 A King County woman has lost nearly $5,000 to scammers who claimed to have found her missing cat.

鈥淗e was my baby and my companion, and I miss him terribly,鈥 said Joan.

On June 4, Joan鈥檚 cat, named Kitty, disappeared from her home. She told 成人X站 7 she had adopted him from the Seattle Humane Society about five years ago.

鈥淚 called him and called him and called nothing. And he was there one day, and he wasn鈥檛 there the next day,鈥 she explained.

After six days had gone by, she says she got a call from a man who claimed Kitty had been found.

鈥淚 said, where is he? He said, 鈥榃ell, the police took him to the shelter, and he has to have surgery, because he鈥檚 injured,鈥欌 Joan said.

Joan says the scammer asked for money for a surgery through Zelle, so she sent it. The next day, the man gave her updates on the 鈥榩rocedure.鈥 But he told her the payment didn鈥檛 go through, so Joan sent the money again, and again.

In total, she ended up paying $4,600 to the man on the phone.

鈥淗e said all the right things. And I was just lopping it up because the only thing I could think of was my kitty, he鈥檚 alive. He鈥檚 okay. He鈥檚 having surgery. He鈥檒l be fine,鈥 Joan said.

Joan believed she was going to听蹿颈苍补濒濒测 have Kitty in her arms again. She kept trying to visit Kitty, but she said the man on the phone kept telling her visits were not allowed.

It wasn鈥檛 until she showed up at the Seattle Humane Society that Joan found out Kitty was never there in the first place.

鈥淭he smart part of my brain shut off, and the emotional side turned on. And there were so many red flags and things that didn鈥檛 sound right to me, but I didn鈥檛 even think about it because I was so excited,鈥 Joan explained. 鈥淚鈥檓 upset by losing $4,600, but that is not the issue. I want my Kitty back.鈥

The Seattle Humane Society says scammers are evolving, even copying their phone number.

鈥淭hese scammers are preying on people鈥檚 desperation to have their families back. So they鈥檙e not just taking their money, they鈥檙e taking their hope,鈥 said Brandon Macz, PR/Social Media Specialist with the Seattle Humane Society.

Macz says you鈥檒l know the call is fake if they ask for money over the phone.

鈥淚f they are found and they are injured and they鈥檙e brought into our care, we will do our very best to take care of them and to make sure that they鈥檙e comfortable and to provide them as much medical care as we can within our abilities,鈥 he explained.

The Seattle Humane Society says you can check on聽聽or call them to double-check if your pet is with them.
