Whether you voted for it or not, Seattle鈥檚 ever expanding light rail project has certain neighborhoods wondering, 鈥淲hen do we get it?鈥 The Angle Lake light rail station will answer that question for thousands living south of Seattle.

South end drivers will get access to the new Angle Lake light rail station on Saturday, Sept. 24. That takes the rail line聽about two miles south of Sea-Tac Airport. Sound Transit has thought a lot about how users will be parking around the new station.

The new Angle Lake light rail station has a 1,000 space parking garage and an additional 70 space lot to accommodate park-and-riders.

“We are rolling out our carpool program, too, and transit users can buy a parking pass for the first time for $5 to make sure they have a space,” said Kimberly Reason from Sound Transit.

That carpool program will eventually expand to other stations.

Why Angle Lake light rail is important

Why should south end commuters be excited? Two words — game day.

鈥淲e are expecting an influx of traffic for weekday commuters and game day commuters, this is the first time, south end riders can get all the way to Husky Stadium,鈥 Reason said.

The trip for Dawgs to go from Angle to to Husky Stadium will be about 48 minutes.

The large station plaza will also be used by the City of SeaTac for community events and festivals.

Sound Transit estimates that the Angle Lake station will hit 5,400 or more riders by 2018 and the $383 million extension will open $40 million under budget and four years earlier than planned.

The City of SeaTac will host a public celebration on September 24 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the station plaza that will include entertainment, refreshments and other activities.
