Drivers found themselves in 11-foot lanes and a slower drive for the two miles on I-5 out of Marysville Monday morning.

Sunday night’s rain prevented workers from re-striping the lanes to their normal size through the expansion joint repair construction zone. Those lanes are going to remain squeezed because the weather isn’t going to cooperate until the weekend, when expansion joint work continues.

“Drivers could be in this configuration for at least the next week or so as we work to find a dry weather window to transition the traffic from being pushed to the right to being pushed to the left,” said Travis Phelps, a spokesperson for the Washington State Department of Transportation.

Phelps says drivers were pushed to the right to handle half the expansion joint repair. They will complete the other side of the road this weekend, weather permitting.
