The Washington State Department of Transportation is saying that last weekend’s massive traffic snarl through Seattle was worth it.
The state is in the midst of Revive I-5 — a months-long effort to rehabilitate I-5 through Seattle. The project will take as the freeway gets a facelift.
Chokepoints: Western Washington traffic news
Last weekend’s work on northbound I-5 involved 150 cement mixer truck loads of concrete that spread across 1,850 feet of the freeway. The right side of six expansion joints were replaced.
More work is ahead. Workers will shut down the left lanes of northbound I-5 on an upcoming weekend. The stretch between the West Seattle Bridge and Olive Way will be closed down. Work planned for the weekend of April 27-30 has been postponed due to weather. That work will now happen May 12-13.
