While Seattle Police understand the occasional traffic mistake, officers are cracking down on drivers in the downtown bus lanes Thursday night.

Not only is it illegal but it’s dangerous. FYI, it takes a bus a little longer to stop than you think. Illegal use of can delay thousands of bus riders and has been the subject of complaints from transit riders and motorists alike.

Tell us about what slows you down

Seattle PD is conducting emphasis patrols on Howell Street during the commute. Offiers will be watching for drivers blocking intersections and misusing transit lanes in downtown Seattle.

“We will get a variety of excuses: bad weather, didn’t see the signage, wasn’t aware, didn’t know it applied during these hours, no one let me merge,” said Sgt. Whitcomb.

Pay attention or you will get hit with a $136 fine.
