Homicide suspect killed, officer injured in Yakima shooting

A suspect was killed and an officer was injured after a shooting in Yakima.
Yakima police officers were trying to approach a wanted suspect in a neighborhood on the east side of the city, just after 7:30 p.m. Saturday. The suspect was connected to a shooting that left a 33-year-old woman dead and a 13-year-old boy in the hospital with gunshot wounds, according to .
After a short vehicle chase, police were able to immobilize the suspect’s car at the intersection of East Walnut Avenue and 3rd Street, according to the .
During the encounter, gunfire erupted after a passenger in the car shot at officers, who then returned fire.
Officer hurt in Yakima shooting
The 36-year-old homicide suspect was killed, while the driver of the suspected car is in custody with non-life-threatening injuries.
A Yakima officer was also shot, but the injuries were not life-threatening. Medics transported the officer to the hospital, but the hospital later released the officer.
The Washington State Patrol’s Yakima Valley Special Investigations Unit is investigating the shooting.
