is about voting rights. It’s in response to states like Iowa and Georgia, which have been passing laws to make voting — shall we say — less easy.
Those laws are being considered largely because if it’s too easy to vote, there might be … too much voting! Not enough waiting in line!
And if you get tired of waiting in line and give up, there’s a law in Iowa that says that if you miss a single general election, they kick you off the rolls, and you have to register again!
There are currently something like 200 bills around the country attempting to make voting more like getting vaccinated.
President Biden, of course, suspects this is a Republican attempt to reduce turnout, so his executive order directs federal agencies to help anyone who is confused by these rules.
He’s directed the federal website to provide state-by-state instructions; he wants federal agencies to help you get a voter ID, or apply for a mail-in ballot, or find the nearest polling place, … and I think I see where this is headed. Rather than whine about how hard it is to vote in Republican states, Democrats are going to adopt a “radical compliance” approach.
I predict they will mobilize hordes of volunteers – very possibly armed with tasty snacks – who not only can explain each one of these laws, but will do whatever it takes to help voters to comply.
They will comply like crazy, with teach-ins on registration, free rides to the polls, and one-on-one assistance for mail-in ballots. It’ll be an election version of DoorDash, ready to deliver voters to the polls, no matter now remote.
Just as the liberal gun-grabbers get the conservative gun-rights juices flowing, it’s the conservative vote-grabbers who have the liberals already planning their red-state vacations for 2024.
