Ross: Right-wing anarchy cloaked in Christian morality

I got a little pushback on last Friday’s commentary where I made the argument that anybody who really thinks Trump won in 2020, should just not vote, so let me expand on that.

I think supporting the violent interruption of the election process is like flag burning, except worse, since we can always make more flags, but we’ve only got one constitution.

I think voting for anarchy is morally wrong. I used to think all the anarchy was on the left, but now, the tolerance for Trump’s behavior shows it is also entrenched on the right. And what’s even more surprising is that it’s cloaked in morality, specifically, Christianity,

“I’m a Christian, how many Christians do we have here? So you see, I also call myself a Christian nationalist,” Republican Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia said. “That’s actually a good thing, right? There’s nothing wrong with leading with your faith, because we should lead with our faith. Because if we’re doing that, then we’re doing the right thing doesn’t mean we’re perfect. It just means we’re doing the right thing.”

That’s Rep. Greene addressing Saturday’s conference of Young Republicans in Tampa. Christians doing the right thing sounds noble. But this is a peculiar branch of Christianity because it includes Christians like Senator Ted Cruz, who entertained the crowd with clips like this.

“I talked to a student recently at one of our woke college campuses who said she’s required every class to introduce herself, and to give her pronouns,” Sen. Cruz said. “Well, I’m Ted Cruz and my pronoun is kiss my [explitive.]”

Students loved it. And there was Matt Gaetz, who shared his Christianity.

“Why is it that the women with the least likelihood of getting pregnant are the ones most worried about having abortions?” Gaetz said. ” Nobody wants to impregnate you if you look like a thumb.”

Now, as representative Greene said, we’re not all perfect, but this is a long way from “blessed are the peacemakers.” I understand the right wants to fight the anarchy on the left, and so do I. But it looks like they’re gonna replace it with just another brand of anarchy, cloaked in Christianity.

Extreme left-wing, extreme right wing, they’re both attached to the same rooster and a lot of us are tired of all the cockadoodledoo.
