Ross: Republicans, Democrats reach a consensus on needless violence

A police armored vehicle patrols an intersection on August 24, 2020, in Kenosha, Wisconsin. This was the second night of rioting after the shooting of Jacob Blake, on August 23. Blake was shot multiple times in the back by Wisconsin police officers after attempting to enter into the drivers side of a vehicle. (Photo by Brandon Bell/Getty Images)

It was day three of the Republican National Convention, and as I watched speech after speech from minorities and women – I almost thought it was day seven of the Democratic Convention! They came very close to infringing on the Democrats’ diversity trademark.
Except these speakers were talking about dreams come true instead of dreams denied. And making the point that diversity shouldn’t be overshadowed by disorder.
They also accused Joe Biden of deliberately glossing over the violence issue. And just to pile on, as Republicans were promising law and order, the Russian-sponsored YouTube channel was streaming the demonstrations in Kenosha.
Well – good news – Joe Biden yesterday :
“Protesting brutality is a right and absolutely necessary. But burning down communities is not protest, it’s needless violence. … That’s wrong.”
And here’s Mike Graveley – the District Attorney in Kenosha, also a democrat:
“The only thing I ask is that we understand that the destruction of property and that the violence that has too often occurred in this community over the last couple of days does a disservice to this moment in history.”
So, police officers: If you see lawbreakers setting fires, or committing needless violence, you now have BI-PARTISAN support for chasing them down and dragging their guilty posteriors off to jail. Gently.
