The masks are finally coming off in some states, but there are people who just can’t let go of the debate over mandates.
In Ottawa, Canadian truckers have blocked a bridge to protest vaccine mandates for crossing the border.
Here in the United States, we’re seeing parents and teachers actually protesting the lifting of mandates because they’re still worried. It’s turning into a free-for-all.
New York Times columnist responsible people aren’t doing more to stop rule-breakers, like the malcontents who make wild anti-vaccine claims, and the renegades who go unmasked in the grocery line. He’s really angry at the right-wing politicians who’ve turned public health into a culture war.
He points out that the mandate rebellion is a mostly Republican movement, and he is hoping that all this will backfire on Republicans come Election Day. He also can’t understand why Democrats like Joe Biden have been so reluctant to condemn these irresponsible Republican voters.
Well, I think I understand. Part if it is that Biden still thinks Democrats can get some votes from Republicans. But the other part may be a little darker, as in – why bother? If there are people who truly believe vaccines can make you infertile, or magnetic, and who therefore plan to remain unvaccinated, how can you argue with that?
A lot of voters are just tired of being told what to do, and tired of hearing about “the science.”
They cannot wait to vote out the politicians who would take away their freedom. They are just counting the days – 272 of them – until the midterm reckoning on Nov. 8.
In the meantime, the virus, in its own ruthless way, will be carefully scrubbing the voter rolls, deciding who gets a ballot and who does not.
