Now that everyone age 5 and older is getting a COVID shot, we’re actually looking at the end of the deadliest phase of the pandemic in America. I know I shouldn’t say that out loud, but that’s what I heard one of CBS’s expert doctors say on this broadcast, so I’m just listening to the science.

But then, last night, I heard this on the evening news on the latest diet research:

“Research presented to the finds that high amounts of processed meat increase your risk of strokes. Eating lots of vegetable fat and polyunsaturated fats like vegetable oils and certain nuts and seeds lowers it.”

So now, in addition to the link between red meat and heart disease, we have this.

Doesn’t research like this drive you nuts? Because this is exactly the opposite of the way the world should work. In a just world, the food we binge on would be the food that’s good for us. Keep in mind I am not following the science here, I’m now listening to my inner voice.

But the reason I bring this up is that it frustrates me to think we went to all this trouble to fight our way out of one pandemic only to eat ourselves straight into another one.

What’s the point if you beat COVID only to turn around and die of stroke?

I realize we all have to succumb at some point, but we should not be punished just because we’re innocently obeying our taste buds. And then, as I was pondering this, it occurred to me that in one year, scientists fiddled with genes and came up with what is essentially an immortality vaccine against COVID.

So why can’t they fiddle with cows and vaccine them with vegetable genes?

I’m not talking about those fake meat burgers. True meat-eaters aren’t fooled by them.

The only answer to get all Americans healthy is to inject cattle with something that makes them as healthy as a cabbage. Because, except for one professional fisherman I know, I’m pretty sure most Americans are not going to give up red meat.

So get busy, science. You did the COVID vaccine in a year, so by next year you should be able to fix the cattle.

Call me a dreamer, but I think it would be a doggone shame if we figured out a way to survive COVID – only to die of meat.
