When I get into discussions about religion, one of my complaints about God is that He never comes out and says what He wants. He鈥檚 either very quiet, or He talks in parables.

And I have been known to think to myself 鈥� God, why don鈥檛 you do something spectacular in the sky 鈥� like skywriting 鈥� something that everybody can see? That way, there can be no doubt in anybody’s mind about the divine will.

Well, as they say, don鈥檛 press the 鈥淪ubmit Order鈥� button unless you鈥檙e sure it鈥檚 what you want.

Because lately, we鈥檝e been seeing that strange orange sun and ashes falling from the sky, and in some areas, even the power went out.

Orange sun, ash falling, lights going out, it鈥檚 not skywriting, but it鈥檚 a pretty clear message.

We may think we鈥檙e in a wet part of the world, but now the rules are changing.

No sooner do we conquer COVID-19 than we have to take out the masks again -鈥� not because we might inhale a virus, but because the air itself is unsafe.

And because of this, I found myself angrier than usual at the dump truck ahead of me that was belching black smoke with every down-shift. And the NASCAR wannabes weaving through traffic, and yes, at myself for being out there in a gas-burning car on a trip that “strictly speaking” wasn鈥檛 essential.

I remember when the scary predictions of melting glaciers and warming temperatures were dismissed as exaggeration or based on faulty data, and in any case, it couldn鈥檛 possibly apply to our wet little corner of the country.

But that orange sun isn鈥檛 some special effect, it鈥檚 the real thing, and I think it鈥檚 telling us to change our habits. Because if it can happen here 鈥� then there is truly no place to hide.
