This is how heroes are tested. They are beaten down. They are turned away. They are told, “no you can’t.”
But when that happens, you don’t turn your back on destiny.
You look for inspiration. You Google quotes about winning, and you proclaim them unapologetically over an orchestral background of drums and French Horns.
Everybody on your feet.
More from Dave Ross: 21 years of losing hasn’t stopped the M’s, one playoff loss won’t either
‘The real glory is being knocked to your knees and then coming back. That’s real glory.’
-Vince Lombardi.
‘Believe that success is the only option.’
–Larry Bird
‘In life, winning and losing will both happen. What is never acceptable is quitting.’
– Magic Johnson
‘Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure…’
-Theodore Roosevelt.
‘The more difficult the victory, the greater the happiness in winning.’
– Pele
‘If winning is God’s reward, then losing is how he teaches us.’
– Serena Williams
‘Some people want it to happen. Some wish it would happen, others make it happen.’
– Michael Jordan
‘From nobody to upstart. From upstart to contender. From contender to winner. From winner to champion. From champion to Dynasty.’
-Pat Riley
And so now the time has come. Stand with your heads held high, with your shoes at the ready – and prepare for some Texas barbecue.
I hope that works.
