Talk about asking President Trump a softball question 鈥 this is from Wednesday鈥檚 White House press briefing:
“Win, lose, or draw in this election, will you commit here today to a peaceful transfer of power after the election?,” .
The answer should be, 鈥淵es! Next question.鈥 That鈥檚 like asking, 鈥渄oes eggnog have nutmeg in it?
And if the guy asks it again, which he did 鈥
鈥淲ill you commit to making sure there is a peaceful transfer of power after the election?,鈥 Karem repeated.
You say, 鈥淚 took an oath to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution and I am a man of my word. Next question.鈥
And then if he asks it a聽third time, which he did …
“Do you commit to making sure …”
You interrupt and you say, 鈥淩EAD MY LIPS: PEACEFUL TRANSFER OF POWER! I will pack up my files, leave a funny note for my successor, steal a few pens, and use my memoirs to rewrite history. NEXT QUESTION!鈥
And yet, there鈥檚 a video of the president saying nothing remotely resembling that.
“Get rid of the ballots and you鈥檒l have a very peaceful 鈥 There won鈥檛 be a transfer, frankly there鈥檒l be a continuation,” Trump said.
Then again, it鈥檚 not really his answer that matters, is it? It鈥檚 how his Supreme Court nominee answers when she gets, what I predict will be, the very first question at her hearing.
