Ross: Trump’s friends, supporters should have worn masks to protect him

The president鈥檚 illness has touched off a whole new discussion on whether it鈥檚 appropriate to say, 鈥淚 told you so,鈥 or to use the word 鈥渒arma.鈥
And he does have to take SOME blame 鈥 he did set up a situation where, for example, a foreign enemy might be tempted to send young asymptomatic people to shout, 鈥渨e love you, we love you鈥 at his rallies as close to the podium as possible.
But I think the real problem was the conduct of his friends. The true believers who see his presidency as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity 鈥 and yet, who obviously didn鈥檛 see fit to protect him.
It鈥檚 on him that he didn鈥檛 mask up, but the people loyal to him needed to adapt to that. Remember 鈥 the mask is not to protect you but to protect others, right?
So even if the president himself was opposed to wearing one, the people around him 鈥 people who support him, people who love him 鈥 should have worn theirs to protect him.
But Dave, you say, he would just tell them to take it off. Of course he would. But sometimes, when you love someone, you disobey them.
That鈥檚 what loyalty is about 鈥 it鈥檚 not just PRETENDING to be on the leader鈥檚 side to keep your job 鈥 it鈥檚 truly wanting to protect him. And I have to believe that rule number one in the loyalty handbook is whatever you do, don鈥檛 be the person who infects the leader with an incurable disease.
