Nothing is more divisive, at least when it comes to driving than this red-light camera controversy.

After a woman was dinged for going through a red light at an intersection in Oregon, her husband decided to appeal. Actually, he went much further than appealing.
Mats Järlström, who has a degree in engineering, researched the timing of Oregon’s traffic lights. He said that the timing of the yellow lights is too short and spent a lot of time fighting his wife’s $206 ticket.
Even after being told he was wrong, Järlström continued to fight, which is when things really heated up. After contacting the Oregon State Board of Examiners for Engineering and Land Surveying, calling himself a good engineer because he doesn’t have a license in Oregon.
He’s filed a stating that his rights have been violated. He contends that free speech rights include the right to do a mathematical calculation and present it.
“The First Amendment protects your right to do math and talk about it,” Former State Attorney General Rob McKenna said.
