Don’t we already have a transparent wall?

President Donald Trump’s proposal for a transparent wall along the U.S.-Mexico border may not be far-fetched. Problem is, that wall already exists.
成人X站 Radio鈥檚 Dave Ross wrote last week that Trump鈥檚 newest proposal for a transparent wall 鈥 one seemingly nothing like the 鈥渋mpenetrable, tall, powerful鈥 one he campaigned on in 2016 — provides another example of the president skirting promises to his base voters.
The Washington Post鈥檚 David Fahrenthold joined Dave on Tuesday to share his thoughts on Trump鈥檚 recent comments. According to Fahrenthold, Trump鈥檚 call for a transparent wall isn鈥檛 too far-fetched 鈥 in fact, it鈥檚 an idea he鈥檚 heard before.
鈥淭he thing about the transparent wall, that actually is something that border patrol officers have said,鈥 said Fahrenthold. 鈥淚t makes sense, right? You don鈥檛 want a wall you can鈥檛 see through. If you鈥檙e trying to figure out who鈥檚 coming at you on the other side, who鈥檚 getting ready to smuggle something on the Mexican side, you want a wall you can see through. Which means bars, I don鈥檛 think it means Plexiglas like around a hockey rink.鈥
However, Fahrenthold adds that wall is already in place. It鈥檚 the type of wall the U.S. has in place in large parts of the border. And building a new one, one closer to Trump’s original proposal, could cost upwards of , according to the MIT Technology Review. (Furthermore, according to Popular Science, adding those solar panels may actually do more bad than good for the environment.)
鈥淭his is him now going back to the wall that we already have in a lot of the places around the border rather than some new thing that he had promised.
鈥淚 don鈥檛 want to prejudge that,鈥 Fahrenthold added with a laugh. 鈥淚f the President does have a force field plan, I want to hear it out 鈥 may be kind of expensive, though.鈥
