Three cars were stolen from a single Ballard home in one night, which has greatly impacted the family in light of the coronavirus pandemic. Mary Kay Jebousek joined Gee and Ursula to discuss what exactly happened.

In the morning she noticed that the garage door was opened and that the cars inside and in the driveway were missing.

“It hit me and I’m like, ‘Hold it, why is the car not in the garage? And why is the other one not in the driveway?’ So that’s when it all came together. But I still didn’t fully understand. And I ran into the house and woke up my husband. And I’m like, ‘Did the kids take the cars?’ And then he’s like, ‘What are you talking about?'” she said.

“And then that’s when I realized all the keys were missing off of our key hooks. So they came into the house.”

How does she think they got into the house?

“I’m assuming that the Acura had a garage door opener in it, and that was the one that was parked on the street, and I’m thinking that it was like ‘Ooh jackpot,’ but I still just can’t believe that that’s what they did,” she said.

The initial shock gave way to utter disappointment as it became clear what happened when two of the cars were found.

“The first day or more we were still in shock. And now I’m sad and disappointed. Two of the cars have been wrecked and towed, and they were trashed … Based on how badly they banged them up, they’re probably not gonna be reparable,” she said.

, Jebousek heard from neighbors that the thieves were speeding in their neighborhood.

“Multiple neighbors in our immediate neighborhood were like, ‘Oh, my gosh. That car was speeding’ … and we were getting times … they were throwing things out the window.”

Beyond the loss, the timing is frustrating considering how her family’s had to adapt to the coronavirus pandemic.

“The frustrating thing is, I always took the bus to work, but because of COVID, I started driving at the end of May, and my husband has multiple myeloma and he had a stem cell transplant, and he’s still immune compromised, so he can’t take the bus.”

A , but the thieves are still out there.

“It was for fun and joy, that’s what makes me sad. I try to keep a positive attitude, but I don’t understand this.”
