Everyone has a soul mate. Cheating ends relationships. Breakups mean the relationship was a failure. These are common beliefs about relationships, but experts suggest we’re often wrong.
Psychotherapist Lohani Noor told that with the right amount of work, even partners that cheat on each other can salvage the relationship. “Gee and Ursula Show” co-host Ursula Reutin agreed that it’s certainly possible in some cases. But you have to do the work.
“You can recover if you do a lot of introspection, probably a lot of therapy, and both commit to making the relationship a priority,” said Ursula. “As someone who was the child in a relationship where there was infidelity, there are things that can be very damaging to your children as well… If you don’t commit to being better to each other… a lot of that anger ends up being absorbed by your children.”
Can you have more than one soulmate?
Another common belief is that a person only has one soulmate. But co-host Gee Scott disagrees.
“A lot of times we are out here searching for that someone… and then you find that someone, and then you find another one, and you find another one,” Gee explained.聽 “And you find yourself realizing, wait a minute, the last three, four relationships that I was in, they all kind of ended the same way, in the same type of arguments that are happening, because it’s coming from inside the house…Once you completely find yourself, it’s easier to find that soulmate.”
Gee and Ursula also agreed that a breakup does not equal failure.
“It might have just been a season. It might have lasted 5 years, 10 years, 20 years… you might have gotten children out of it together. You might have gotten a career out of it together,” argued Gee. “Every relationship doesn’t always have to be, ‘oh that was a failure.’ There can be success in a relationship that did not continue to make it.”
“You’re exactly right,” said Ursula.
