‘They’re making you pay for the right to bill you:’ 成人X站 hosts upset over toll changes for SR 167 HOT lane /kiro-opinion/toll-changes-sr-167-hot-lane/4113881 Sat, 26 Jul 2025 12:01:59 +0000 /?p=4113881 罢丑别听 from Auburn to Renton is being converted into an express toll lane, similar to the 聽between Bellevue and Lynnwood.

Up until now, only solo drivers needed a pass to pay their way into the HOT lane. Carpoolers didn鈥檛 need a pass. It was the honor system. Now they do, or they will be tolled.

“I’ve made friends with total strangers just to use that lane, now it’s still going to cost me an additional fee,” 成人X站 host Spike O’Neill said.

“On ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm,’ he would pick up a prostitute just to drive in a lane like this,” 成人X站 host Jake Skorheim added.

“Did you know, on the Golden Gate Bridge, people wait by the side of the road just to get a ride across?” Spike asked. “Just jump in a car, get a free shuttle across, and let someone else use that high-capacity occupancy lane.”

Drivers will still be able to carpool toll-free, but they will need to have a set to HOV mode to do so, Lauren McLaughlin, spokesperson for the Washington State Department of Transportation’s (WSDOT) toll division, told 成人X站 Newsradio. The flex pass costs $15, plus tax.

The change in policy is directly related to the number of drivers who wouldn’t honor the “honor system” in place when using HOT lanes.

“They’re calling all of you liars and cheats. Yes, they are. They don’t trust you. And I don’t think you should trust them. I’m talking about the government. I don’t think you should trust them,” Jake said. “This is what they’re going to force you to do. You have to buy one of these passes. We’ve all seen them in the window, but it’s not free. It should be free. They’re penalizing you and making you purchase this thing. It’s a $15 fee to buy it. You have to set up the account, which is a headache. It is a headache.”

“I’m looking into ways to subvert the law,’ Spike said jokingly. “With regard to this story in particular, I’m looking for ways to subvert the law. I’m going to reach out to Sheriff Swank because he’s the guy who wants to help the commuter along.”

Drivers without a pass will be charged the toll, plus $2 for pay-by-mail. This should eliminate the rampant cheating that SR 167 sees in the HOT lane today. You will also pay a toll for how long you鈥檙e in the lane. The new signs will show segments of the highway. The signs will have toll amounts for three destinations.

You won鈥檛 pay three separate tolls 鈥 only one toll for your destination. You will also have limited options for entering and exiting the toll lane.

“They’re making you pay for the right to bill you. It feels wrong if you need a mechanism to record my information and subject me to your tolling policies,” Spike said. “I got to pay for the right for you to bill me? If you are requiring me to pay in this lane, you should provide me the equipment with which to bill me.”

‘I’m a very spiteful, vengeful person’: Woman warns Navy she won’t drop Blue Angels cat death lawsuit /jake-and-spike/blue-angels-cat-death/4113626 Fri, 25 Jul 2025 20:00:17 +0000 /?p=4113626 A woman from Seattle is standing firm on her against the U.S. Navy, claiming the noise and disruptions from the Blue Angels caused the death of her cat.

Lauren Ann Lombardi made it clear she isn鈥檛 scared to take on the government. During an exclusive interview on “The Jake and Spike Show” on 成人X站 Newsradio, she didn鈥檛 flinch when 成人X站 host Spike O鈥橬eill flooded her with questions like, “It鈥檚 the federal government,” and “How long can you keep this up? They鈥檒l bleed you dry.”

“They will never be able to wait me out,” she calmly responded. “I’m a very spiteful, vengeful person. I have nothing but time on my hands.”

Lombardi insisted that the Blue Angels demonstrations over Seattle in 2023 and 2024 triggered severe panic attacks in her elderly pet, Layla. The cat began to suffer from having an elevated heart rate and extreme distress, eventually leading to euthanasia.

The lawsuit was filed by her attorney, Nacim Bouchtia, whom she’s also married to.

“Is that ethical?” 成人X站 host Jake Skorheim joked.

“Well, if the relationship starts before …” Bouchtia replied.

Much of the lawsuit centers on Lombardi’s claim that the Blue Angels blocked her on social media. After voicing her frustrations with an Instagram account and petition called “We All Want to Feel Safe: No More Blue Angels Over Seattle,” she claimed the official Blue Angels Instagram blocked her.

Woman seeking for Blue Angels to unblock her account

Lombardi is seeking a court order to unblock her account and prohibit the Blue Angels from blocking others based on their viewpoint.

Jake said that, based on a previous Supreme Court ruling 鈥 that public officials may block people on social media if it’s private, but if it’s in their official capacity, they may not 鈥 he believes Lombardi has a chance.

“I think you guys have a case, based on what you’re saying 鈥 but I hope you’re not successful,” Jake remarked. “What do you want from the Blue Angels? What are you guys seeking in this? What damages have been done to you?”

“There’s a difference between damages done and also what we can legally recover,” Bouchtia responded. “We can’t make them stop flying, at least not through this lawsuit, but we can make them unblock Lauren so that she can voice her complaints however she pleases.”

“I assume this goes to a judge?” Jake said.

“Maybe, I mean, the facts are so straightforward, I don’t see why they would want to go to a judge, but let’s say, unless they like being spanked,” Bouchtia replied.

When asked if Bouchtia would have to prove that Lombardi’s complaints on social media would have stopped the Blue Angels from performing, Bouchtia responded, “No, we don’t have to prove that. All we have to prove is that they blocked her. Period.”

Lawsuit also asks Blue Angels to undergo First Amendment training

Jake then asked if the two were seeking money.

“We’re leaving that up to the court for now,” Bouchtia said. “So whatever the judge deems appropriate, but in terms of injunctive relief, which is the judge forcing the Blue Angels to do something, we want them to unblock Lauren, and we want them to take remedial First Amendment training so that they can honor the values that their service represents.”

Bouchtia and Lombardi dismissed any notion that they were worried people would view the lawsuit as frivolous.

“Because it’s not,” Bouchtia quipped. “I mean, yeah, they can be wrong. I don’t care about the opinions of ignorant people.”

“The thing is, a lot of other people are affected,” Lombardi chimed in. “Like, there are people who have been sharing their stories, very similar stories, where their animals have also died.”

“Is that proven?” Jake pushed back.

Bouchtia said that he and Lombardi cited studies that show a negative impact on wildlife caused by the Blue Angels.

One study in their lawsuit estimated that more than 74,000 Puget Sound residents have been exposed to noise levels high enough to cause health issues when the Blue Angels perform overhead. Another study pointed to evidence that such noise disrupts the behavior of marine life, including endangered orcas.

But, in terms of her own cat, Lombardi said Layla was like her child.

“She was my child. I mean, I don’t have human children. A lot of people don’t have human children for many different reasons. She was like my child to me,” Lombardi shared. “I treated her like my child her whole life, and there was no difference to me.”

Cat euthanized shortly after Blue Angels’ performance

Layla was euthanized around a week after the Blue Angels’ performance.

“Would she have had to have been euthanized even if the Blue Angels didn’t perform?” Jake asked. “You said she had a congestive heart issue.”

“It’s possible,” Bouchtia said. “It definitely didn’t help. That’s all we can say.”

‘She deserves every dollar’: Spike praises fired SPD employee after $875K vaccine mandate settlement /kiro-opinion/spd-employee-vaccine/4113551 Fri, 25 Jul 2025 00:44:18 +0000 /?p=4113551 Marina Shinderuk, who was terminated from the Seattle Police Department (SPD) after her 14-year career, has secured a $875,000 settlement from the City of Seattle for her refusal to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.

成人X站 host Spike O’Neill commended Shinderuk for her determination.

“She tried every possible way to give them a workable solution to maintain in the department, and they just said ‘No thanks,'” Spike said on “The Jake and Spike Show” on 成人X站 Newsradio. “I don’t know if they were trying to make an example out of her as a supervisor, saying, ‘You’re either going to go by the rules, or you’re gone,’ but I think that has a lot to do with why she won the settlement. She deserves every dollar.”

Fired SPD employee claims she wasn’t given accommodations

The City of Seattle provided accommodations for unvaccinated individuals during that time, including social distancing, masks, and routine testing. Shinderuk claimed that she was not allowed these accommodations, which ultimately led to her termination.

“She’s a single mother with three kids, and COVID rolls around. She applies for and receives a religious exemption, then shortly after, they’re not honoring the exemption,” 成人X站 host Jake Skorheim said. “Unceremoniously, she gets fired, jobs gone after 14 years.”

Shinderuk offered a variety of arrangements she could make for her employer in place of receiving the vaccine, including remote work, relocation, and enhanced safety protocols.

“She was bending over backwards to try and accommodate what she believed was important to her employers,” Jake said. “She wants to keep her job, but also needs to make sure she can support her family. She smartly lawyered up and decided to sue.”

Shinderuk began her career as a telecommunicator and was promoted to police communications supervisor in 2019. She was later terminated from her position in 2021 for her refusal to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.

“A 14-year veteran who has dedicated her skill sets to making sure this city is a safe place to live,” Spike said. “A poster woman for how you want a civil employee to be and behave.”

Shinderuk’s attorney dubbed the settlement a “big win for the citizens of Washington State,” according to . Her attorney also cited the City of Seattle’s failure to accommodate her religious exemption as grounds for the settlement.

“I wonder how much she was originally suing for. It’s a settlement, and that’s always a business decision. She doesn’t want to keep fighting it,” Jake said. “Maybe she was going for $2 million, but they settled and she got paid, which is great.”

The reported a cumulative total of more than 7 million COVID-19 deaths worldwide, and more than 1.2 million inside the United States as of this reporting.

“This is a mixed bag for me, because I felt that the state had a right to mandate these requirements for employment,” Spike said. “In hindsight, they were trying to make the best of an unknown situation that was evolving in horrific directions. We forget how horrific it was back then, and states were making decisions based on the most informed science at the time.”

‘Is this a joke?’ Jake and Spike debate morality of Blue Angels cat death lawsuit /kiro-opinion/blue-angels-cat-lawsuit/4113248 Thu, 24 Jul 2025 12:21:41 +0000 /?p=4113248 A Seattle woman is suing the U.S. Navy, claiming the noise and disruption from the Blue Angels caused her cat’s death. The eloquently details the cat’s death, referring to the animal as the woman’s “beloved family member” and calling out “the government’s role in her daughter’s suffering.”

“Is this a real story? Is this a joke? Are we being punked?” 成人X站 host Jake Skorheim quipped on “The Jake and Spike Show.”

The filing also detailed how the woman was allegedly blocked from commenting on the Blue Angels’ social media about stopping the noise after using profanity.

“A year later, when that same vulnerable creature died after enduring yet another sonic assault during her final days on Earth, the Navy’s Constitutional betrayal compounded the tragedy 鈥 an American remained silenced, unable to voice her grief or otherwise hold her government accountable for its role in her family’s suffering,” the lawsuit stated.

Jake and Spike debate validity of Blue Angels’ cat death lawsuit

“Is this where we’re at in society?” Jake continued.

To which 成人X站 host Spike O’Neill responded, “Yeah, this is where we’re at, we are a litigious society.”

However, Spike believes the problem is not the woman in this situation.

“That’s a h*ll of a thing to say,” Jake retorted. “The problem is not the woman suing the United States Navy over her cat’s euthanasia?”

“No, it is not,” Spike replied. “The problem is the attorney who took this case and is now exploiting this woman’s grief.”

“Lawyer’s gonna lawyer,” Jake zinged back. “This is hourly wages. This guy needs to get paid.”

“So you’re standing up for the shyster in this?” Spike asked.

“Shyster is a big word, I wouldn’t say shyster,” Jake responded. “I don’t think this lawyer is a shyster. Listen, somebody wants to sue. This guy’s taking on the case. It’s his duty.”

Jake jests at lawsuit targeting Blue Angels

Jake noted the lawsuit’s complaints about the Blue Angels’ noise level only made him more excited for the show.

“Every August, a squadron of F/A-18E/F Super Hornets multirole fighter aircraft descend upon the Puget Sound with the subtlety of a military occupation, conducting screeching low-altitude flights with their twin jet engines reaching speeds of over 700 mph and producing decibel levels exceeding 130 dB 鈥 louder than a jackhammer at close range and sufficient to cause immediate hearing damage,” the lawsuit stated. “This auditory carpet bombing is nominally not part of an invading enemy force destined to traumatize a captive civilian population, but rather represents the United States Navy’s own elite aerobatic troupe: the Blue Angels.”

“I gotta be honest,” Jake shared. “If, once this lawsuit goes away, and the unpleasantness of having sued the United States Navy for something so preposterous fades into obscurity, she should actually apply to work in marketing for the United States Navy, because this is a great advertisement.”

Although Jake and Spike thought the lawsuit was excessive, they did agree that losing a pet is difficult. However, Jake noted that losing an animal is nowhere near as close as losing a child.

‘Oregon found population segment not yet taxed’: Jake and Spike sound off on new permits for paddle craft /kiro-opinion/oregon-new-permit-paddle-craft/4112617 Wed, 23 Jul 2025 12:01:08 +0000 /?p=4112617 Beginning January 1, 2026, all kayaks, rafts, and stand-up paddleboards will a permit in the state of Oregon.

The permit, issued by the Oregon State Marine Board, can be obtained for either a seven-day period for $6 or annually for $20.

“The only reason I’m reporting on this story is because I’m making a timestamp,” 成人X站 host Jake Skorheim said. “This is a prediction of what will happen in Washington State. When they see that other people have gotten away with shenanigans, they will also try to get away with shenanigans. And so this is a tax that will absolutely come to our waterways at some point in the near future.”

“I couldn’t agree more,” 成人X站 host Spike O’Neill added.

The Oregon State Marine Board claimed the state needs a permit to educate and work against invasive species. According to聽, only two other states require paddleboards under 10 feet to have a permit.

“You’re not using the boat ramp to get in, you’re literally just hopping off the dock or pushing off on a beach or waterway on the rocks in a river, and now you have to get a permit?” Jake stated. It’s not crazy expensive … but you didn’t have to pay these things before if you just wanted to go down on a paddleboard. Now you’re going to have to pay an extra fee, which is going to stop people from doing it, which is going to stop people from getting healthy, and everybody’s going to be fat.”

$120 fine for paddling on Oregon waterways without a permit

For those willing to risk it and paddle on Oregon waterways without a permit, there is a $120 fine if caught.

“The headline ought to be ‘Oregon found population segment not yet taxed, and corrected their mistake,'” Spike said.

This permit follows another recreational permit in Oregon, the bicycle excise tax. Established in 2017, it’s a flat tax of $15 per purchase of any bicycle worth $200 or more.

“This is criminal, Spike. This is wrong,” Jake said. “We need to call it out when it happens. This is wrong. They shouldn’t be doing this, and Washington’s going to do this.”

More information on the permits required for kayaks, rafts, and stand-up paddleboards in Oregon can be found .

‘A wonderful soul and brilliant talent’: Spike reflects on Ozzy Osbourne’s legacy /kiro-opinion/ozzy-osbourne/4112733 Tue, 22 Jul 2025 22:44:01 +0000 /?p=4112733 Ozzy Osbourne, the gloomy, demon-invoking lead singer of the pioneering band Black Sabbath who became the throaty, growling voice 鈥 and drug-and-alcohol ravaged id 鈥 of heavy metal, died Tuesday, just weeks after his farewell show. He was 76, The Associated Press reported.

成人X站 host Spike O’Neill shared some personal memories he had with Ozzy, his storied history with drug abuse, and summarized the heartbreaking loss for rock ‘n’ roll.

“His lovely wife Sharon, who was his manager and practically saved his life because Ozzy for the longest time lived his life with pure debauchery,” Spike said on “The Jake and Spike Show” on 成人X站 Newsradio. “Ozzy passed surrounded by his family and love at the age of 76, just two weeks after he played a farewell show in Birmingham.”

Ozzy recently performed at Villa Park in a gig featuring performances from some of his favourite acts, including Metallica and Guns N’ Roses, for the star’s farewell from the music industry.

“You don’t get the chance to feel the love from your fans and from your compatriots in the Rock and Roll world like Ozzy did,” Spike said. “We kind of made fun of Ozzy’s farewell performance a little bit because it was a struggle for him vocally, to be doing that at the age of 76.”

Ozzy reunited with the original Black Sabbath band members, Tony Iommi, Terence “Geezer” Butler, and Bill Ward for the first time in roughly 20 years at the farewell concert.

Spike O’Neill meets Ozzy Osbourne

“I was lucky enough to meet Ozzie,” Spike said. “In 1994, I was working with the Bob Rivers Show, and we were making song parodies. We had an idea to do a Christmas parody of Iron Man, called I am Santa Claus.”

Iron Man, featured on Black Sabbath’s 1970 album Paranoid, notched nearly 10 million in sales across the globe, according to .

“We had to reach out to Ozzy Osbourne’s family and ask for permission to do a parody of Iron Man,” Spike said. “Not only did they welcome the idea for us to have fun with it, but Ozzy was also in town on tour and agreed to come out to Bob Rivers’ home and take part in our video, and he let us interview him.”

We were able to invite listeners out to meet Ozzy at Bob’s house, and he could not have been more gracious and warm. Also, this was 31 years ago. Ozzy had to be helped out of the car with a personal assistant who walked him into Bob’s house,” Spike continued.

Ozzy and Black Sabbath separated in 1979, and Ozzy went on to release his debut solo album, “Blizzard of Ozz,” which marked the first of 13 solo studio albums.

“He could not have been more gracious, loving, but also physically debilitated from, at that point in time, his years of abuse,” Spike said. “He was kicked out of Black Sabbath in the late 70s because, even for them, he did way too much partying.”

Ozzy Osbourne bites head off bat

Either clad in black or bare-chested, the singer was often the target of parents鈥 groups for his imagery and once caused an uproar for biting the head off a bat. Later, he would reveal himself to be a doddering and sweet father on the reality TV show 鈥淭he Osbournes.鈥

“Remember, there was the national coverage of Ozzy that he bit the head off a bat at a show in Iowa in 1982,” Spike said. “The story behind that was a kid brought the bat to the show, a dead bat, with the intent of throwing it on stage. He threw it on stage, and the bass player noticed this thing and pointed it out to Ozzy. He waddled over as he does, cause you know, when Ozzy performs, he’s in another place.”

Ozzy’s bat-eating incident became a career-defining moment in the rock legend’s history and has been a recurring topic mentioned in interviews with Ozzy ever since.

“He thought it was a rubber bat, and he reached out and bit the head off of it and immediately realized that he had screwed up, and this was a real bat,” Spike said. “Ozzy had to get rabies shots because of it, but he was always known as the guy who bit the head off of bats after that.”

Public transit offered no escape from I-5 delays for Spike O’Neill /kiro-opinion/public-transit-i-5-delays/4112706 Tue, 22 Jul 2025 21:57:51 +0000 /?p=4112706 Seattle drivers are feeling the impact of I-5 construction as work ramps up during the so-called “Month of Hell” 鈥 a series of lane closures on I-5 north.

Many commuters hoped public transit would offer a faster route, but 成人X站 host Spike O鈥橬eill said his Tuesday morning trip to work took him longer than driving.

“It took me longer than it would have taken for me to just sit in my car for the hour and 15 minutes, probably, would have taken me to get from my Edmonds commute down to here on South Lake Union,” Spike shared on “The Jake and Spike Show” on 成人X站 Newsradio.

However, Spike did mention he had to deal with securing a bike locker before his light rail trip.

“My plan was to bring the bike onto the train because they’ve got these bike racks on the train, where you literally stand your bike up and hang the front wheel from this rack, from the roof of the train car. Very convenient, very well designed. But I get up to the station, and the platform is just packed,” he said.

Spike said his bike was too big to get onto the train, but luckily, he found a bike locker.

“I didn’t realize how lucky I was to secure a bike locker this morning, because they rent them out,” he added. “You can rent them for a year. It’s like a $50 annual fee for a bike locker, and then you’re at will, first-come, first-served.”

Therefore, Spike believes that because he had to take his bike to the train station, lock up his bike, go to Capitol Hill, and then rent another bike to get to work, it took him longer than the average person.

But would he commute again?

“I may do it again, out of a sense of duty to the commute,” he said.

Transit may be worth avoiding angry I-5 drivers

成人X站 fill-in host Mandi Bossard said commuting may be worth it to avoid the angry drivers.

“As somebody who did sit in my car, the vibe in the air 鈥 everyone was so angry. Everyone was honking at each other,” Mandi said. “There’s something psychologically about taking transit and you’re moving and you feel like you’re moving forward.”

“I’ve resigned myself to the fact that me being angry, or anxious, or yelling isn’t going to get me here any faster,” Spike responded.

Spike O鈥橬eill questions if CBS canceled Colbert to appease Trump administration /kiro-opinion/cbs-canceled-colbert/4111599 Mon, 21 Jul 2025 12:00:01 +0000 /?p=4111599 CBS has decided not to renew “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert,” citing financial reasons not content, reported Friday.

However, the announcement came three days after Colbert called out the , the parent company of CBS, and has led political leaders and 成人X站 host Spike O’Neill to question the television network’s motive.

“I think it’s an indicator of a much bigger situation, because it comes on the fact that Donald Trump has been suing various television networks,” Spike said on “The Jake and Spike Show” on 成人X站 Newsradio.

Colbert said he was “offended” by the $16 million settlement reached by Paramount, which is waiting for Trump administration approval on its pending sale to Skydance Media, and called it a “big fat bribe,” according to The AP.

“The fact that CBS has a potential merger 鈥 a huge merger 鈥 because they’ve been struggling financially, the entertainment division struggles,” Spike said. “CBS is being picked up by an organization called Skydance. It’s a multi-billion-dollar merger. It’s got to be approved by the FCC, which is controlled by the Trump administration’s FCC.”

Did CBS have ulterior motive for canceling Colbert?

Therefore, Spike posed the question, “Did CBS settle this lawsuit with Trump for $16 million in cash in order to maybe win favor from him for this merger?”

“Is this another attempt by CBS to appease the Trump administration, who seemed to be pretty retaliatory, to make sure their merger goes through?” Spike added. “That’s what I don’t like about this. Colbert wasn’t fired for content, wasn’t fired for performance.”

Jake and Spike clash over who’s to blame for Denny Blaine Park: Park-goers or city? /kiro-opinion/jake-spike-denny-blaine-park/4110478 Wed, 16 Jul 2025 12:19:15 +0000 /?p=4110478 A judge sided with a neighborhood group聽on Monday to temporarily close nude beach Denny Blaine Park unless the City of Seattle comes up with a plan to address crime within two weeks. The group has cited rampant public sex, masturbation, indecent exposure, lewd conduct, drug use, and harassment surrounding the park.

While 成人X站 host Jake Skorheim agreed the city needs to clean up the park, 成人X站 host Spike O’Neill believes the park-goers should be responsible.

“If the queer community in Seattle can’t police their own respected, treasured area of Denny Blaine Park, then they’re going to lose it,” Spike said on “The Jake and Spike Show” on 成人X站 Newsradio.

Jake noted that the park is the city’s property.

“Whatever community has adopted it, it’s not their responsibility to clean it up and take care of it 鈥 that’s the city’s responsibility,” Jake added. “They can’t police the thing themselves.”

Spike kept his stance, saying, “Well, I would think it’s on the users of the beach.”

“Are they going to make a citizen’s arrest?” Jake asked.

Spike says Denny Blaine Park-goers should speak up

“The community that’s using the beach needs to speak up to the people who are coming to that beach and breaking the law, the sex acts, the drug use,” Spike responded. “If you want to have the privilege of having a nude queer beach in Seattle become a part of the of the culture of the city, as [City Attorney Anne] Davison says, then it behooves the users of that park who enjoyed for its aesthetics, to speak up and say, ‘Hey, look, see something, say something.'”

Seattle woman accused of robbing 9 banks using airsoft gun, handwritten threats charged /crime_blotter/seattle-bank-robber-charged/4109901 Mon, 14 Jul 2025 19:59:37 +0000 /?p=4109901 A 24-year-old Seattle woman has been charged with multiple counts of robbery after allegedly robbing or attempting to rob nine banks across the city over one year.

Leena Chang was charged with eight counts of first-degree robbery and one count of attempted first-degree robbery after targeting banks from Queen Anne to West Seattle, according to documents filed in King County Superior Court.

String of bank robberies in Seattle

The string of robberies occurred between June 2024 and July 2025, during which Chang allegedly used handwritten notes to threaten bank tellers, and at times brandished what was believed to be a firearm, or claimed to have one.

Investigators noted that Chang allegedly entered several banks disguised as a customer, and quietly passed the threatening messages to employees that demanded cash, then escaped with thousands of dollars, according to .

Chang was arrested on July 7 after police said she had committed a robbery hours earlier at the Washington Federal Bank on California Avenue Southwest.

Detectives claimed she was walking near her University District apartment carrying items pictured in the bank’s surveillance footage, which included a wallet, green bag, and other accessories.

An airsoft pistol, and $1,799, were recovered from Chang, including a note that read, “I have a gun. Give me all the money from your register (except bait $). No tracking device. No silent alarm. Keep it discreet,” according to 成人X站 7.

Law enforcement searched Chang’s apartment and discovered additional evidence that included disguises and other notes used in the robberies, and a notebook which detailed each bank robbery location, dates, and the amounts of money stolen.

One of the notes, written on the inside of an envelope, read, “Put $4,000 in 50s and 100s in here. Count from clean stock. Remain silent. No panic button. No dye packs, trackers, bait money. You have 30 seconds. I’m not kidding.”

Prosecutors said Chang allegedly attempted or successfully robbed nine locations, including:

  • Wells Fargo, 1600 Queen Anne Avenue North, on June 28, 2024.
  • US Bank, 2746 Northeast 45th Street (inside QFC), on September 7, 2024.
  • Key Bank, 9735 Holman Road Northwest, on November 21, 2024.
  • US Bank, 4200 Southwest Edmunds Street, on January 13, 2025.
  • HomeStreet Bank, 4036 East Madison Street, on March 18, 2025.
  • Sound Community Bank (Mountlake Terrace, attempted), on March 14, 2025 (not yet charged).
  • WaFd Bank, 4800 Rainier Avenue South (attempted), on May 8, 2025.
  • US Bank, 3124 West McGraw Street, on May 12, 2025.
  • WaFd Bank, 4102 California Avenue Southwest, on July 7, 2025.

鈥淪he took immense personal satisfaction from her ability to rob banks and outsmart law enforcement,鈥 Senior Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Brynn Jacobson wrote in a bail request. 鈥淭he fact that she was a focus of a significant law enforcement investigation appears to have been a source of great pride for her.鈥

The state asked for Chang’s bail to be set at $500,000, and her arraignment is scheduled for July 23.

‘The Jake and Spike Show’ weighs in

“I don’t think bank robbing tactics have changed much. She’s slipping tellers’ notes and carrying a firearm, it kind of amazes me,” 成人X站 fill-in host Greg Tomlin said on “The Jake and Spike Show” on 成人X站 Newsradio. “Perhaps it’s my own ignorance and naivete that that’s still the way robbing a bank is done nowadays.”

Chang implemented common practices that have been used numerous times in the past when attempting to rob a bank, most notably, using a written note to guide the process discreetly.

“In the story, it says there is what appeared to be a firearm,” 成人X站 host Spike O’Neill said. “It’s a totally different crime to rob a bank and to rob a bank with a gun.”

Firearms, knives, and explosives qualify as an armed robbery under federal law, according to . Additionally, the United States v. Gray ruling set a precedent for realistic-looking toy guns enhancing a robbery charge because they can induce a defensive or violent reaction.

“Well, she was caught because she did it eight times. You think about the first seven times she did it, she built a track record,” Spike said. “This woman wrote a memoir. She kept copious notes of all her exploits with the intent of what? Selling her story to the tabloids someday?”

Bank robbing sprees in Seattle aren’t rare. William Scott Scurlock, nicknamed “The Hollywood Bandit,” robbed a total of 19 banks in Seattle between 1992 and 1996. Scurlock used elaborate disguises for his robberies inspired by the movie “Point Break,” which ultimately totaled roughly $2.3 million in stolen funds.

Seattle bank robber...
‘This is inevitable:’ Spike mourns the end of The Little Red Hen /kiro-opinion/spike-mourns-little-red-hen/4109186 Sat, 12 Jul 2025 13:00:09 +0000 /?p=4109186 The Little Red Hen country music bar and dance hall, home to good times, live country music, and cold beer, appears to be closing at the end of July.

The country bar has been in operation since 1933, and nestled within Seattle鈥檚 Green Lake neighborhood since 1968.

“I think it’s more than just a business, closing The Little Red Hen in the Green Lake area,” 成人X站 host Spike O’Neill said. “It has been, in recent months, in a dispute with their new property owner. A company bought the building in which The Little Red Hen exists and the new property, the LLC that owns The Little Red Hen’s property now, which is RLD Group LLC, has asked The Little Red Hen to sign a new lease agreement. The Little Red Hen has had a month-to-month lease agreement for years.”

According to RLD Group, the bar did not have a valid lease even before they took the building over in 2022. The landlord claimed the bar was allowed to stay on a month-to-month basis in good faith, but The Little Red Hen’s manager disputed that claim, arguing that the new property owners tried to raise the rent.

While growing up in Baltimore, Spike’s parents owned a neighborhood tavern, and he couldn’t stress enough the importance of a community watering hole at the end of a hard day’s work.

“The value it brought to, not just from the business perspective, but from a cultural perspective and a quality-of-life perspective to our neighborhood,” Spike said. “Hey, pub is short for public house after all.”

While the landlord has previously stated they want to work out an agreement still, the landlord told the bar owner to leave by the end of July.

“Should we mourn, and is it proper to mourn as a lot of these smaller establishments are going away here in the area and just being replaced by the lowest common denominator; these big national chains that can afford to have a location that doesn’t operate necessarily as well because the other stores will pick up the slack for them,” 成人X站 fill-in host Greg Tomlin said. “Whereas, if you’re a mom-and-pop shop, so to speak, you have to make it work. You’ve got to meet the bottom line month over month, or you could be out of business.

“It’s sad to see, because it does sort of fundamentally change certain areas, and it’s a bummer,” Tomlin added. “But again, I don’t know what the solution to a story like this is. It’s sad.”

The end of The Little Red Hen started with a dumpster disagreement

Tensions between the property owners and the bar boiled over due to a matter involving the bar鈥檚 dumpster. The neighboring Wooden City Tavern has been paying the majority of The Little Red Hen鈥檚 trash fees for the past five years in exchange for using the dumpster, reported. But RDL Group terminated this deal after taking over the property. The owner of The Little Red Hen estimated this change would cost the business $40,000 annually.

“With The Little Red Hen, I would say that this is growth. This is evolution. This is inevitable,” Spike said. “And while I love the value of a dive bar in your neighborhood and what it brings, from a lifestyle perspective and the community for the clients, a third place that so many people feel toward The Little Red Hen, growth is growth. And when a developer like the RLD Group makes a decision to, boy, I’m trying not to get too far ahead of my skis here, but you mentioned the dumpster agreement that started this whole cavalcade of ending this.”

Spike O鈥橬eill applauds Kroger’s new coupon policy for less tech-savvy shoppers /jake-and-spike/kroger-digital-coupons/4108399 Thu, 10 Jul 2025 12:02:12 +0000 /?p=4108399 Kroger, which owns familiar stores such as Fred Meyer and QFC, has announced a new policy at select stores that allows shoppers to use digital-only coupons via printed flyers provided by the store.

Spike O’Neill, co-host of “The Jake and Spike Show” on 成人X站 Newsradio, and 成人X站 fill-in host Greg Tomlin addressed some of the driving factors behind Kroger’s digital coupon adjustment, noting a few negative personal experiences using coupons in the past.

Kroger updates digital coupon policy

“They’re changing the digital code digital coupon process here, because a few years ago, a coalition of consumer groups got together and said, stop discriminating against our senior citizens and low-income shoppers,” Tomlin said. “It was seen as a policy favoring only the tech-savvy shoppers.”

The revised policy addresses the ongoing difficulties elderly and lower-income shoppers have when using the store’s applications that provide coupons.

“I found myself in Safeway late at night, and there’s a digital coupon for a cookie that no one else seemed to have in stock,” Spike said. “I’m ready to check out using the app, and the lady working says, ‘Those coupons never work, people just give up. Let me ring in the price by hand.'”

Two reported that one in four adults aged 65 and over did not use the internet in 2021. Additionally, 13% of adults in low-income households did not have access to the internet through a smartphone.

“It’s the equity of available discounts to all citizenry, not just those who are nice and lucky enough to have a smartphone or understand technology,” Spike said.

The digital coupons will now be available near the entrance of participating stores and customer service desks, according to .

“It’s hard for me to navigate the apps, and it’s hard for me to get a signal in the store, and I scan multiple times in that stupid QR code, and it doesn’t seem to work unless I throw myself at the mercy of the midnight checker who says that never works,” Spike said.

The newly provided coupon sheets allow customers to scan a barcode at checkout, which accesses all advertised discounts within the store, a process that eliminates the need for the internet.

“There’s no quicker way to get a business or organization to acquiesce to the clamors of the populace than to cry discrimination over a policy or practice,” Tomlin said. “Now, if you’re shopping at a Kroger-backed grocery store, you’ll be able to pick up a digital coupon or scan one as you enter the facility.”
