Rantz: On abortion, Seattle Rep. Jayapal reveals she’s clueless about the Supreme Court

We can now safely add the role of the Supreme Court to topics that Seattle congresswoman Pramila Jayapal doesn’t understand.

Politico published a leaked, early draft opinion from Associate Justice Sam Alito that overturns the abortion case Roe v. Wade. Assuming nothing changes, the decision means states can regulate abortion, allowing the voting public to decide on reasonable restrictions. This is objectively good news for pro-life Americans.

Democrats, however, are upset. They are now providing an endless stream of overwrought, hyperbolic, ridiculous reactions and protestations in response. Jayapal provided one of the most ignorant responses.

Jayapal doesn’t know how the Supreme Court works

Jayapal joined the chorus of democrats declaring this an attack on woman’s bodily autonomy.

“This is a stunning, stunning rebuke of precedent and of the fundamental freedom that women have to make choices about our own bodies and our own futures and our own economic security,” Jayapal told “CNN’s Newsroom.”

She then argued that the Supreme Court justices don’t have the right to overturn Roe v. Wade.

“These justices are acting like this is somehow something that they have the right to change,” Jayapal said. “They do not have the right to change this which has been settled law for two generations now of people who have grown up and have gone through their twenties in the firm belief that they can make these decisions about their own bodies.”

And in a , Jayapal expanded her specious argument, claiming that the “purpose” of the Supreme Court is to “respect precedent.” She demanded her followers “take to the streets” to “fight tooth and nail” to uphold a woman’s access to abortion. The last time Democrats demanded their activists take to the streets, we saw nationwide riots from Black Lives Matter supporters and Antifa domestic terrorists.

Before Jayapal’s army of vegan baristas and unemployed 20-somethings living in their parent’s mother-in-law units take to the streets, they should know her entire argument is false.

Jayapal has no clue what she’s talking about

The Supreme Court does, indeed, to overturn Roe v. Wade or any “precedent” that it chooses.

Though it’s rare, any previous decision could be overturned. If that weren’t the case, we’d still permit racial segregation (though, I’ll note the irony that Democrats now endorse racial segregation in schools, again).

We shouldn鈥檛 be shocked that Jayapal doesn鈥檛 understand how the Supreme Court works when she doesn鈥檛 even understand what overturning Roe v. Wade accomplishes.

On Twitter, Jayapal tweeted evidence to back her claim that the “American people DO NOT support overturning Roe v. Wade.” She pointed to a poll showing little support for a federal ban on abortion. That may or may not be true, but it’s irrelevant. Overturning Roe v. Wade doesn’t impose a federal ban on abortion, as Jayapal should know. It’s hard to tell if she’s this ignorant on a topic she says she’s passionate about or if she’s hoping to take advantage of a low-IQ base. Either way, she’s wrong again.

Bumper sticker talking points

Like many on the Left, Jayapal declares abortion a “human right,” an increasingly meaningless term. Democrats believe everything they support is a “human right” — from housing to internet access.

But the congresswoman’s support for fundamental rights isn’t equally applied.

The U.S. Constitution expressly states that the right to bear arms is a protected right. Still, Jayapal to ban guns. Jayapal justifies her unconstitutional view with the claim that it protects children from gun violence. Unsurprisingly, her argument is illogical.

If a right is fundamental, you can’t merely wave it away. She can quote as many polls as she likes, but constitutional rights aren’t decided by polling. And a ban on guns does just that: bans guns. Overturning Roe v. Wade doesn’t ban or criminalize abortion.

Perhaps Jayapal should lean less on bumper sticker talking points and more on logic and facts?
