Authorities in Parkland were in a standoff Tuesday morning with a man who had been shooting at police and deputies.

The incident started Tuesday morning with a stolen car tied to burglaries in Tacoma.

When members of the arrived at 9700 Croft St. South trying to recover the car, two people walked out of the house with gunshot wounds.

The suspect walked out of the house, walked back in and fired shots at police.

“We were trying to talk with him, get him to come out and surrender and he started shooting outside the house toward where we were all at,” of the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department said.

Later, the suspect, described only as a Tacoma man, shot at police.

The incident ended three hours and 45 minutes after it began.

“Tacoma police advised us they had used a drone and robots to try to clear the house and find the suspect. They located him deceased inside the residence from what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound,” Moss, Jr. said.

The led the investigation at the scene. TPD, SWAT and a negotiating team were also on hand.

“We don’t know what this person’s motive (was). We don’t necessarily know the relationship with the people he shot. And we know he has shot at officers. We don’t want anyone else to get injured,” Moss, Jr. said.

The victims were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police still don’t know what led to the shooting. They don’t know how the two victims, the stolen car, and the gunman are connected.

Their investigation is underway.
