Army awards Silver Stars to JBLM Rangers

The Army has bestowed one of its highest honors on two Rangers from Joint Base Lewis-McChord, including one who died in action.
Specialist Ricardo Cerros is credited with saving lives when he gave his own, killed by a grenade in Afghanistan in Oct. 2011. He was 24. The reports that his parents accepted the award during a ceremony at St. Martin’s University.
Sergeant Peter Cimpoes put himself in the line of fire during a prolonged gun battle last October, also in Afghanistan, to enable the rescue of two wounded Rangers.
Both were awarded the Silver Star, for valor in combat, the third highest combat-related honor.
The 2nd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment at JBLM awarded 11 Purple Hearts and 12 other medals connected to the Rangers’ deployments to Afghanistan in 2011 and 2012.
