Holding signs with the faces of black people shot and killed by police across the nation, a crowd chanting “Black Lives Matter” marched through Seattle Tuesday night.
The Black Lives Matter rally began at Westlake Park around 6 p.m. It reportedly gathered hundreds. The crowd then moved onto the streets, moving up and down Pine Street, 4th Avenue, around Pike Place Market, then up to Capitol Hill by 8:30 p.m.

The crowd switched from singing songs, and chanting “Hey, hey, ho, ho. These racist cops have got to go,” and also “No justice, no peace. No racist police.” The crowd also chanted: Whose lives matter? Black Lives Matter.
The crowd eventually marched onto Broadway, stalling traffic as it moved through the street — some of the crowd briefly broke off to refuel at Dick’s Drive-In.
Seattle police on foot and on bicycles followed the crowd the entire way.
The march stopped at times for people to make speeches. It wasn’t just the issue of police abuse and racism that the crowd spoke about. The crowd also spoke about how the city wants to build a new police precinct building in North Seattle — what they called a “police bunker.”
They encouraged others to show up at Seattle City Hall to protest the “police bunker,” on Wednesday morning.
“Get there early. Wear your Black Lives Matter shirts and be ready to fight this police bunker,” one woman said in the crowd.
