Utility crews were on scene overnight after a water main ruptured near the Port of Tacoma, spewing thousands of gallons of water and leaving a hole in the road.
The break happened at , just outside the former Simpson Tacoma Kraft paper mill, now owned by Rock Tenn. It’s the city’s largest water customer.
Other water users have service restored.
Crews shut off the water and found the cause of the break in the 16-inch main, according to a spokeswoman for Tacoma Public Utilities, who was on the scene Tuesday night.
Repairs could take all day. Access to the paper plant is not affected and traffic disruptions in the area of the Port of Tacoma are limited.
