Police often reach out to the public for help solving crimes, but Bellevue bike cops are seeking input on something a little more artistic.

The Bellevue Police Department is holding a contest to see who can design its next police badge – for its bike patrol squad.

Bike patrols return to Bellevue after years-long absence

The bike patrol team is returning to Bellevue streets after being shut down for six years. The department cut the Bellevue bike cops in 2011 when its budget was tight. In March, bike patrols were approved to roll through Bellevue once again.

But just as with any crew roaming on bikes, they need a good patch. The public is asked to submit its own designs to BellevuePD@bellevuewa.gov. The patch has to align with the current patch’s dimensions, as featured on the . The winner will join the bike patrol team for a lunch and participate in a training event.

Police Chief Steve Mylett will pick the winning design.

The bike patrols are considered a valuable asset to the Bellevue force as they can access parks, trails, and other areas that cars cannot easily travel. They can also provide a police presence off the road and out of a vehicle.
