Emergency landing at SeaTac for ramp agent stuck in cargo hold

Apr 13, 2015, 3:39 PM | Updated: 4:20 pm

An Alaska Airlines flight had to return to Sea-Tac Airport shortly after it took off on Monday afternoon when a banging noise was heard coming from under the plane.

The airline has released a statement:

“Immediately after takeoff, the pilot of Alaska Airlines flight 448, bound for Los Angeles, reported hearing banging from beneath the aircraft. The captain immediately returned to Seattle, declaring an emergency for priority landing. The aircraft was in the air for 14 minutes”

Alaska Airlines said that the agent, an employee of Menzies Aviation, told authorities he had fallen asleep as he exited the aircraft from the front cargo hold.

The cargo hold is pressurized and temperature controlled, according to Alaska.

The worker appeared OK but was taken to a hospital as a precaution.

The airline says it’s investigating.
