Fatal crash involving Metro bus blocked traffic for hours

A fatal crash that left one dead Tuesday morning blocked traffic for about five hours.

All lanes of Renton Maple Valley Road SE in Renton were blocked after the driver of a sedan swerved into the opposite lane and crashed head-on into a King County Metro bus.

The collision occurred around 4:30 a.m. near Jones Road, according to the Washington State Patrol. The crash is south of Cedar Grove Road.

The driver was killed instantly, according to State Trooper Chris Webb.

The driver of the bus suffered minor injuries, according to the State Patrol.

Detours were in place at 231st in Maple Valley to the south and Cedar Grove to the north.

Metro routes were affected.
