Federal agent hit by car in Lakewood; suspect shot

Jun 6, 2013, 12:11 PM | Updated: 12:15 pm

A federal agent was hit by a car Wednesday night in Lakewood before shooting and wounding a drug suspect.

Lakewood Police Lieutenant Chris Lawler says the Homeland Security agent was working with a task force on a drug operation when they tried to make a traffic stop.

“The driver of that vehicle, he failed to comply with commands, tried to flee the scene, and in the process aimed his vehicle at one of the HSI special agents and actually struck the officer in the leg,” says Lawler.

Lawler says that’s when the Homeland Security agent shot and wounded the driver. “He fired his weapon. The suspect was hit.”

Medical aid was called to the scene.

The agent was not seriously hurt and the drug suspect is expected to survive.
