Fourth of July weekend is approaching and the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) has released its annual traveling checklist regarding the ferries.

For instance, if you plan on boarding a state ferry by car, be prepared for long delays. WSDOT says, “Peak travel times on most routes are expected to be westbound Thursday and Friday, June 30 and July 1, then eastbound, Monday and Tuesday, July 4-5.” It’s suggested if you plan on riding the ferry you can bypass the traffic by traveling as a walk-on passenger.

Here are some WSDOT tips before you head out on your fourth of July vacation!

• All riders should double-check the as some routes are operating on timetables that are different than prior to the pandemic.
• Visit the for more details on vehicle reservations, rider alerts, checking terminal conditions, and COVID-19 travel updates.
• The federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention still recommends wearing face masks in indoor transit, but they are no longer required.

Remember to give yourself plenty of travel time and be patient. Have a safe and enjoyable Fourth of July weekend.
