Notorious former school teacher Mary Kay Letourneau spent Monday morning in a Seattle jail.

Tukwila police arrested the former elementary school teacher who gained international attention for her relationship with a 12-year-old student, Vili Fualaau, early Monday morning.

Letourneau, now 51 years old, was booked into the King County Jail at 4:44 a.m. for failing to appear in court on a charge of driving with a suspended license. She was cited and released.

Letourneau served seven years in prison for child rape after police found her in a car with Fualaau in 1998 while she was serving a deferred sentence for child rape. After her release from prison, Letourneau married Fualaau, who was 21 years old at the time. They have two children together.

In the 1990s, Fualaau was a student at Shorewood Elementary School in Burien where Letourneau was a teacher. He was a student in her second grade class. She began a relationship with the boy when he was a student in her 6th grade class. The relationship was revealed after Letourneau was arrested in a car with Fualaau at a marina in 1997 in the middle of the night.
