Legendary Northwest clown J.P. Patches will soon have a street named after him.

The Seattle City Council approved the action Monday in a resolution to honor the clown character, played by Chris Wedes from 1958 to 1981.

“He died recently, but we will always remember him. He will be close to our hearts,” said Councilmember Jean Godden.

The honorary designation adds the street name J.P. Patches Place to a short stretch of north 34th St. near the statue.

Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn proposed the honor after Wedes passed away in July.
