The impact of a partial federal government shutdown may not be felt right away in Washington state.

For example, if you plan to go sledding up at Paradise in Mount Rainier National Park, you’ll be able to get in — for free. But the national parks will stop providing most visitor services. That means roads which have been cleared of snow will likely stay open. Snow-covered roads won’t be plowed, however. Anything that requires staffing or maintenance will be closed, such as campgrounds or full service restrooms.

If you’re traveling, don’t worry. Air traffic controllers, TSA agents, and Amtrak employees will remain on the job.

Members of the military will get paid. So will postal workers.

On top of that, many federal workers take the period between now and New Year’s Day off. So, it’s more likely they’ll be missed after January 1, 2019.
