A Pierce County woman who tried to hire a hit man to kill her husband is going to prison instead. Lucky for her husband, the parolee she contacted for help turned her in.
“She was willing to pay $250,000 to eliminate her husband,” said Pierce County Prosecutor Mark Lindquist. “Fortunately for her husband and unfortunately for her, the hit man she hired turned out to be an undercover detective.”
Lindquist says there were several meetings between Karen Lofgren and the informant, who told the woman he had arranged for somebody to kill her husband.
“Though she offered $250,000 for the hit, the only payment she actually made was in the form of a diamond ring which, ironically, was her wedding ring,” said Lindquist.
A judge Friday sentenced Lofgren, 48, to almost 14 years in prison for solicitation to commit murder.
