A Seattle police officer of 17 years will be detained after a jury indicted him on charges of pot smuggling and money laundering.

RELATED: Seattle police officer charged with marijuana conspiracy

Alex Chapackdee was charged earlier this month with being part of a ring that moved hundreds of pounds marijuana from Washington state to as far away as Baltimore, Maryland. His brother-in-law and two other men were also charged.

Chapackdee will be held in jail pending his trial.

The FBI’s investigation into the ring’s activities has been going on for two years, and The Seattle Times reports Chapackdee has been under surveillance for more than a year.

If convicted, he and the others face a minimum of five years in prison and fines of up to $5 million for the smuggling charge. The money laundering charge comes with a possible 20 years in prison and $250,000 fine.
