Could King County become a hot spot for filmmakers? King County Executive Dow Constantine seems to hope so, with the help of a new film production facility on Harbor Island.

Seattle International Film Festival returns

Constantine visited the new film studio — Harbor Island Studios — located at the former Fisher Flour Mill on Harbor Island on Saturday.

“This is an exciting opportunity for us to recapture some of that film business and the many jobs that have depended on it over the years,” he said. “I could not be more excited about the chance we have to bring back film to King County.”

The 117,000 square-foot sound stage is King County鈥檚 first major public investment to bring back a once-thriving film industry and creative jobs as the region rebounds post-pandemic.

“We transformed this vast warehouse into a creative space with stages, sets, and shops to put hundreds of people to work in good, union jobs making films right here in King County,” Constantine said in a written release.

Constantine also noted he was standing on the set of a TV series that starts filming at the new studios this week, though he did not say which show.

He a “smart public investment, which will help this industry grow and thrive.”

“We don’t want Vancouver or Portland to keep serving as Seattle鈥檚 stand-in,” he said. “We鈥檙e ready to spotlight the amazing talent of our region.”
