A man seen leaving the area of a knife fight in White Center was shot by a King County Sheriff Sergeant Monday afternoon.

The 54-year-old man, along with several other people, fled the area of the fight as deputies arrived at the scene in the . As the sergeant got out of his vehicle, the man began walking toward him, holding a knife at waist level, according to the King County Sheriff’s Office.

The man believed to be a “transient,” refused to obey orders from the sergeant and continued to walk toward him. That’s when the sergeant fired two rounds at the man’s stomach.
