Pike Place Market turns 115!

Tomorrow is Pike Place Market’s 115th anniversary.

It started as a response to consumer anger about the high cost of food in Seattle.

Farmers were frustrated about low prices from wholesalers.

So, they circled the wagons and the direct-to-consumer farmers market was born.

To celebrate 115 years, the first 115 customers tomorrow will be served mini donuts under the clock, starting at 9 a.m.

Amazon swarmed with evidence requests over Amazon Prime

Amazon complains to federal regulators that they are “hounding” founder Jeff Bezos and senior executives with evidence requests.

The Federal Trade Commission is investigating Amazon Prime sign-up and cancellation rules.

Amazon’s legal petition asks the FTC to cancel some requests for information and to extend the deadline for answering others.

The e-commerce giant says investigators are making “impossible-to-satisfy demands” and don’t need some of what they are asking.

Stolen goat recovered safely

A 3-month-old goat, stolen from the Gray’s Harbor Fair, has been found safe and returned home.

Penny was taken around 6:30 Saturday night and spotted with her captors at the Lacey Walmart later that night.

One person was arrested yesterday. Two more have been identified but not yet caught.

Events and festivals back with state grants

Community celebrations, scaled back or suspended during the pandemic, are getting a boost from the state.

The Department of Commerce says $3,300,000 in grants, total, will go to 284 groups, who put on events and festivals, a lot of them are smaller, and have a lot of local flavor including Orting Pumpkin Festival, The Arlington Fly, and the Walla Walla Chamber Music Festival.

Local events and festivals give communities a sense of identity, a chance for neighbors to get together, to bring in tourists or raise money for causes.

So the Commerce Department says its vital to get these up and running again.

Lynnwood pot shop robbed

Lynnwood police have released bodycam video of the manhunt for a team of armed robbers who roughed up customers and workers in a pot shop last month.

Police say five robbers, wearing ski masks and with guns drawn, held up the Euphorium pot shop in Lynnwood before leading officers on high speed chase into Seattle where they scattered.

Seattle K-9 teams joined the chase. One person was arrested while the others remain on the loose.

Pot shops have become prime targets for crooks because they deal primarily in cash.
