Washington Secretary of State race to be between Hobbs and Anderson

Washington’s Secretary of State race this November will be between Democratic incumbent Steve Hobbs and non-partisan candidate Julie Anderson.

That means, for the first time in more than half a century, no Republican will be in the General Election for the position.

The Associated Press called the Primary election Tuesday, saying Anderson, with just under 13% of the vote, edged out the two leading Republicans in the race by less than a percentage point.

Under Washington’s primary system, the top two vote-getters, regardless of party, advance to the November election.

Investigation into Kent teacher determines discrimination violation

We now know the outcome of an investigation into a Kent elementary school teacher who was accused of telling a 3rd-grade girl she was “rachet” and “ghetto” at recess back in May.

The Kent School District determined the teacher did violate its nondiscrimination policy and transferred the teacher to a different elementary school.

Victoria Glover is the child’s aunt, she claims other students and parents reached out to her to say they’ve also experienced discriminatory behavior from the same teacher.

The child’s family calls the teacher’s transfer to another school a disservice to Kent students.

She previously worked as Superintendent for the Mukilteo School District for nearly 17 years.

WSU officers retire after failing to report inappropriate conduct

Washington State University says three WSU Police commanders who failed to report an officer’s alleged on-duty sexual activity to administrators, will be retiring.

According to a release from the university, Police Chief Bill Gardner, Assistant Chief Steve Hansen, and Capt. Mike Larsen have all informed school leadership that they will retire instead of possibly being fired after they were given notice last month of pending disciplinary action.

The officer at the center of the investigation allegedly engaged in sexual activity while on the Pullman campus in December of 2020.

Last month, school leaders said the chief, assistant chief, and captain were placed on home assignment, and their roles were reassigned to other officers.
