Knife-wielding man shot by Federal Way police

Federal Way police officers shot a man wielding a knife Monday morning while responding to an assault.

Officers were called to 275th Street and Pacific Highway South. The first officer on scene found a suspect matching the description of a man involved in the assault just north of 288th Street.

The man was armed with a knife in his hand. After refusing commands to drop the knife, an officer shot the man, according to information from the Federal Way Police Department.

After being shot, the man fled, but was later arrested and transported to Harborview Medical Center.
The officer involved in the shooting is on paid administrative leave.

The Valley Investigation Team will take over the investigation.
