Love triangle suspected in Port Angeles killing

Oct 8, 2014, 3:09 PM | Updated: 3:32 pm

A man found dead in a home in Port Angeles Tuesday night might have been the victim in a love triangle.

Police responding to a 911 call arrived in the and spotted an armed man with bloody hands.

“Officers were in the area trying to search for a female who had made the call,” said Sgt. Barb McFall. “He came out, covered in blood, carrying a handgun. There were multiple officers on scene. He basically gave up without incident.”

The man found dead inside the house is identified by police as Gerald Howell, 40. Police say the woman who made the 911 call was the victim’s current girlfriend and the suspected shooter was her former boyfriend.

“She had domestic violence orders to keep him away from her, had made that split, and moved on,” McFall explained.

The felon who was arrested had serious injuries to his hands and was initially treated at a Port Angeles hospital before he was airlifted to Seattle’s Harborview Medical Center for surgery.
