One man was killed in an officer-involved shooting outside of a Motel 6 parking lot in Fife on Tuesday afternoon.
Two undercover officers were trying to arrest the man, a wanted felon with at least eight convictions, when he tried to run over one officer, forcing his partner to shoot.
Pierce County Detective Ed Troyer says they were able to arrest a woman who was in the car with the suspect. The man in the driver’s seat put the car in drive and went over a curb.
“He backed over one of our deputies, knocking the deputy down,” Troyer said. “The other deputy drew his weapon and told him to stop or he’s going to get shot.”
Troyer says the officer then opened fire on the man, fearing he would run over his partner. Both officers have been placed on paid leave.
The woman was arrested on several felony warrants.
