Puyallup Police searching for suspect after barbershop shooting

Puyallup police are looking for a man who shot and killed the owner of a barbershop Wednesday while he was giving a child a haircut.

Officers report it happened at the JQ Barber Shop at 112 East Stewart, shortly after 5 p.m. Wednesday.

According to a post on the page, the man with the gun entered the barber shop shortly after 5 p.m. and shot the 43-year-old man multiple times as he was in the middle of cutting an 8-year-old’s hair.

Fire crews arrived just moments later and determined that the victim was dead.

The child was not injured.

The man who was shot and killed was identified as the owner of the barbershop.

Police say immediately after firing the gun, the suspect took off on foot.

Witnesses at the barber shop described the gunman as being about 5′ 8″ tall, of an unknown race, and wearing dark clothing.

After an extensive response and search, police say they were unable to find him. They are asking anyone in the area with surveillance video to check it for footage of the suspect.

The investigation into this incident is being led by the Puyallup Police Department’s Investigative Services Unit.

Police are asking anyone who lives or works in the area to check their security cameras for anyone matching the suspect’s description.

This was the first homicide of 2022 in the city of Puyallup.
