The holiday crowd at Sea-Tac airport Tuesday night will include some picketers, who are joining thousands protesting nationally in what is a typically busy day travel day before Thanksgiving.

Airline catering workers will be demonstrating as part of their fight for higher wages and less expensive health care premiums, and timed the protest in an effort to reach as many people as possible.

Their representatives says half the food workers make less than $15 an hour, with catering workers at SeaTac Airport employed by Sky Chefs and Gate Gourmet making wages as low as $12.50 per hour, all while airlines they say are seeing record profits.

Sea-Tac’s airline catering workers voted to strike last summer, but are still on the job.

Federal mediators are helping with contract negotiations. The protest is expected to begin at 6:00 p.m.
