Seattle gets rare glimpse of Aurora Borealis

The Seattle area saw a rare view of the Aurora Borealis early Sunday morning.
After a beautiful day, the night sky lit up green. The National Weather Service in Seattle captured the Northern Lights in this video:

Why is Seattle so lucky to see the aurora on display? According to the NWS, the interplanetary magnetic field is tilted south, which “bodes well for an aurora sighting in western Washington.”
