Steer clear of Meydenbauer Bay and Lake Ballinger as cities deal with sewage, algae

A sewage leak broke out in , Bellevue, causing King County Public Health officials to warn people to keep themselves and their pets away from the area. Meanwhile, in Edmonds is closed to swimming after potentially toxic algae was found.

“Due to potentially toxic algae, it is not safe to swim in Lake Ballinger or bring dogs and pets near the water,” the City of Edmonds via social media Tuesday.

The poor conditions were reported late Monday, Aug. 26, according to the City of Edmonds, stating that testing is underway.

The public will also be notified once the issue is resolved.

Meydenbauer Bay sewage spills out after pipe hit

In Bellevue, according to the city, a contractor hit a wastewater pipe, causing the sewage to flow into the bay.

The City of Bellevue posted a graphic of the spread of the sewage, warning residents to stay out of the water in the highlighted area until September 2 at 3:45 p.m.
