Suds could flow again at old Olympia brewery

Jun 20, 2013, 3:58 PM | Updated: 5:13 pm

The long-vacant Olympia brewery in Tumwater, Wash. could become a brewery again.

When Miller Brewing sold the facility in 2003, it included a covenant barring production of alcohol. Now, Miller has agreed to lift that restriction.

The city of Tumwater, Dana Commercial Real Estate and Falls Development announced the agreement in a joint press release Thursday.

Owners of the old brewery and nearby properties say the agreement opens up new options for quality re-development, including another brewery or distillery.

The 175-year old brewery was in operation from 1896 until 2003, except for the years of prohibition.

A plan to bottle water on the site fell through and the lender foreclosed on most of the property.
