Threat closes Archbishop Murphy High School in Everett

Sep 14, 2018, 9:06 AM | Updated: 9:12 am

A deadly threat on social media caused Archbishop High School in Everett to close Friday and cancel all other school activities.

“The threats didn’t mention any specific person, but they did sate that he was going to kill someone,” said Shari Ireton with the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office. “Patrol went to the student’s home. The student admitted to making the threats. It has been confirmed that he does not have access to any firearms.”

Ireton says a 16-year-old student made the threat on Snapchat, a social media app. The student was not arrested because this threat wasn’t directed at anyone specific.

All school related activities — including football activities or after school programs on or off campus — are canceled, too.

Archbishop Murphy High School released this statement on its :

On Thursday, September 13th, AMHS was made aware of a potential threat. We immediately notified authorities and it is the recommendation of law enforcement that we cancel school on Friday, September 14. All school related activities will be postponed both on and off campus. We will issue an update as we receive more information and guidance from local law enforcement. The safety of our students and staff is our number one priority.
