A man was arrested for throwing concrete at cars traveling on I-5 in Federal Way early Monday morning.

The Washington State Patrol reported receiving a 911 call around 12:30 a.m. stating that a pedestrian had thrown a rock at a car and damaged the windshield.

A trooper responding to the victim noticed a pedestrian on the other side of the concrete barrier along I-5. He parked his car in the gore point at S. 272nd Street where two other victims had pulled over. The trooper walked northbound on the other side of the barrier and saw a person lying in the tall grass. He also noticed pieces of concrete in the area that had been broken off of the barrier.

The person in the grass was detained for investigation of throwing debris. One of the victims told troopers that the suspect being placed in the back of the patrol car was the same person who had thrown a piece of concrete at his car.

While troopers were parked in a lot off of the freeway to take photos and statements, more victims contacted the scene with damage to their cars.

In total, four drivers said they were traveling in the southbound lanes of I-5 near S. 272nd Street when their cars were struck by pieces of concrete.

One driver received minor injuries when a chunk of concrete cracked his windshield and hit him in the shoulder. Pieces of glass left minor cuts to his face and arm.

The suspect, a 35-year-old man, was booked into King County Jail for investigation of Assault 2 and Malicious Mischief 2.
